    Which ones have you heard?

Surprised you didn't enjoy the Whitters album. She's like a young Lori McKenna, for me.

Feel like you'd love the Cam record. She collaborates with a bunch of interesting people (McKenna, Natalie Hemby, Harry Styles, Sam Smith, Jack Antonoff, Jeff Bhasker) and makes music that kind of reminds me of Speak Now/Red era Swift. That album is probably in my top 15 or so this year.

The Mickey Guyton EP is hit or miss for me, but "What Are You Gonna Tell Her" is staggering. At very least, give that one a listen.

Can't comment much on the others. Didn't care for the Ashley Ray album, and I've been underwhelmed by Kree Harrison and Jaime Wyatt in the past so I haven't checked out their new albums yet. Waylon Payne I haven't heard, but I've seen him on some other lists (including a top 10 ranking on the NPR list) so I'm interested.

  8. I'm sure you didn't mean it like that but it didn't come off great, that's all I'm saying. Not trying to fight any more people on the internet today sorry!

I don't want a fight either. But don't make such a serious implied accusation next time someone says they dislike a song.

I've heard Cam's name a ton lately without having much context. Those collaborator names are really appealing.

Ish? If you’ve seen Before Sunset, her song is what they listen to in the music booth. Really really good almost outsider-art esque while still being pretty beautiful and accessible

She had a five-year gap between albums; seems like there might have been some label interference that derailed her career for awhile there. But she took the time to refine her songwriting and craft a really solid album, imo. I liked her debut; I love this one.

People keep mentioning “Cam” and I keep on thinking I’ve missed a new Cam’ron album.

I love that movie. Definitely need to put her on the radar. Thanks for the tip.

That's awesome. On the catch-up list for sure. Label jail seems unnervingly common in Nashville.

It was exactly the same thing for Maddie & Tae, who also came back this year. I think it's especially bad for female artists.

Maddie and Tae INFURIATED me. To drop every song on the record on EPs AND make them wait so long and lose any career momentum is just malpractice. Business-minded conservativism run amok.

It was heartbreaking to watch that happen, and to see them try to put on a positive front about it. And like, I guess the label got what they wanted: "Die from a Broken Heart" was a number one country hit. But the entire rollout was a huge disservice to them, their talent, and the quality of the songs.

Do we really not think it would have been a hit a year ago though?
