Completely agree with you. His best work imo is TOYPAJ. The way his guitar sounds is so good.

^ I was watching for that, but missed it somehow! (I still don't understand the MTV site lol)

I was listening to this today, and I liked it better today. But I can't deny how much I love the Claymation of it!
I was feeling this way. Having just truly heard both this year, I was like I won't be home is like the best song ever!! But I fear I've been thinking it in my head way too much over the past few months, I've overdone it and I was annoyed tonight. :'D

So what do YOU think is blinks masterpiece is?

    Wait, I forgot ...

Ohh right! Yea I liked this one too! Estella was great too!

    Lol yes! :'D

Blink doesn't have a masterpiece. There's nothing that any musician or even fan of music should look at and say "this is a work of art". That goes pretty much for any pop punk. Someone mentioned american idiot...it's a stretch but that might be a musical masterpiece.

You can call untitled their best effort, the most diverse, the most progressive, the most creative etc. But don't call it a masterpiece.

...what? There’s not like a defined criteria of what a masterpiece must be. If someone finds Untitled to be a masterpiece, I might not agree, but I think it’s a valid opinion to hold.

Then it just becomes a meaningless word. Which makes this debate pointless.

  9. Again, I wasn't saying that Untitled is or isn't a masterpiece, in general. I was saying that it is Blink-182's masterpiece, much like how American Idiot is Green Day's masterpiece. I don't personally think either of them are masterpieces when compared to general masterpieces like Sgt Peppers or Pet Sounds, but in the particular band's discographies, those are masterpieces.

But yeah, really this debate is pretty pointless because while some people call Born To Run by Springsteen a masterpiece, I'd agree to disagree because I don't like that album, haha. But yeah, in the end, who really cares? Just because something is a considered a masterpiece to one person doesn't mean it is must be enjoyed by everyone.

I mean, all art is subjective, not just music. It especially makes no sense to single out genres for what can and can’t be.

It’s nonsense to look at any genre and say it inherently is incapable of being quality art

I say this as someone who thinks people in general give superhero and Star Wars movies way too much credit

A certain band they were listening to at the time had a guitarist that incorporated a lot of octaves into his work too:eyes:

Really enjoyed reading this. Technical discussions don't happen much regarding this band but it should, Finn incorporated a lot of subtle creative bits into those albums, I love it.

Yep, I think it’s because this whole band (especially Jerry) have always been so good at the fundamentals. It’s never anything extremely complicated with them, but they are good at the subtle creative things like you mentioned.

That was Untitled in a nutshell. They retained the pop sensibilities from the previous albums but made countless tiny creative tweaks throughout the whole thing that really made it stand apart.

Also since that point in time:

    2 Blink albums
    A deluxe re-release
    A Christmas Song
    A single
    An Alk3 album
    An Alk3 ep
    2 Simple Creatures Ep’s
    A million different Travis projects
    Various guest appearances
and more stuff like podcasts and producing

Plus they are working on new material for Blink and other projects.

I feel like adding Matt was a good decision. The output of content from all these guys has been so high since he got involved.
