Some stuff going down with Chance and his now ex-manager Pat Corcoran.

Chance The Rapper sued for $3 million in commission by former manager | MMG NEWS

Chance's dad and new manager (his brother Taylor) offered a lump sum for Pat to drop the suit but apparently Pat is not accepting that.

This all adds up and explains why his album sucked so bad. Ego was always the occam's razor answer and it looks like that's what happened.

There were definite signs of Chance’s big ego that Pat also facilitated, like getting MTV to remove a negative review for Chance in exchange for an appearance on “Wild N Out.” It sounds like it got out of control and Pat’s mad about it.

I meant more the stuff about Chance trying to make an album in a few months while also getting married makes sense.

    No wonder it’s so bad.

I didn't even realize he'd split with Pat but that makes a lot of sense. I've said it in this thread before but I can't remember the last time I saw an artist whose career I watched from the very beginning become so visibly full of themself after coming across as genuinely humble like Chance has

The Big Day - An album so bad you have lawsuits about how bad it is

With every passing day I think more and more about how this is such an interesting case study on what happens when someone becomes unlikeable AND puts out bad material at the same time. Usually you get one or the other but chance really just went all out in both directions.

it really bums me out that this is how his career ended up because he was so easy to root for around the acid rap / surf days.

He was likeable and putting out great stuff during Coloring Book era too. I even really dug his pre-TBD singles. I think it really started going downhill when he defended Ye ("slavery is a choice").

I went from really liking Big Day, to not liking it and re-listening now, I've settled somewhere in the middle. Too long and no big hits, which is probably what Pat was telling him.

He's likable enough to have played off the subpar album in some fashion, but firing your manager, supporting a Kanye presidential run and getting petty with people on Twitter was not the route to take. Whatever, best of luck to him, hope the next release is better, but I won't hold my breath.

I'll never forget him telling fans to eat a dick when they said "Groceries" was underwhelming and Twitter searched his name to find people that made fun of his proposal. He really should have logged off after "Coloring Book" and probably would be in a much better place.
