The guy did also win 20+ mil so he may just be done himself.

  2. Already in talks with a bunch of promotions according to his manager.

He probably walks to the title in Bellator.

Hope they have a good reason for cutting top talent (they probably don't).

So did he get “cut” or did he get offered way less and chose to walk?

I’d guess they at least tried to cut his pay fairly drastically after that last terrible fight... The guy was honestly given a big favor in that title shot after coming up short and/or missing weight in his last few (and off a loss, no less), yet he was content to engage in a staring contest and ride it out to a loss. I knew they couldn’t have been very happy with him after that.

I thought I read he still had fights left on his contract with the UFC but don’t quote me. If true, that has to create some sort of issue with signing at another promotion.

Also watching some old fights this morning from some some favorites and this is still top 3 head kick KO’s ever.

  8. He had three remaining. So if he’s actively talking to other promotions it likely means he was cut by the company. They’d lock his ass down if he quit with three fights left and tried to go elsewhere.

Claressa has posted herself training with Bones and wow does he look big. I love Stipe, I do call him the goat heavyweight in MMA but he’s gonna have his work cut out for him.

Yeah man, Jones is coming along really nice in his build up to heavyweight. Seems like the 240 range is the ideal weight for speed + quickness. And with his range advantage, his competitors will have some really work to do

Feel like we can likely be saying goodbye to Villante, Gustafsson, Anders and a whole slew of others then based on that metric.

Yes, let’s cut the most physically apt person we’ve ever seen above the age of 40 who rarely takes serious damage but let Cowboy continue to get a stick broken off in his ass until he chooses to stop because $$$.
I know Yoel is older and less exciting than he was but let’s be honest, he still pulls. No doubt the UFC is penny pinching at this point.

Lol I was thinking the same thing. Amazing.

This is an instance where he’s going to claim it’s due to COVID and no live audiences, but then he’s going to get mad and defensive anytime anyone insinuates that the company isn’t absolutely booming.

    Not here. Isn't happening. Supporter

Yoel losing 4 of 5 is misleading, he only lost to the top 3 guys and was competitive against all of them. He could easily be the 4th best fighter in that division still.

I agree, but I still feel like what I said earlier in this thread has a lot to do with it. The UFC has pushed him into the title picture over and over again despite not succeeding and missing weight. Then he got one last gift in his title shot against Izzy and squandered it with a terrible performance.

You could match him up with mid-tier guys, but I suspect he probably expected those same kind of paydays which the UFC is not going to be interested in at this point.

Wonder what other big names will be released. I’m assuming Shogun, Woodley, JDS (if he loses to Gane).

I can see Dos Santos and Woodley. Can’t imagine Shogun anywhere else besides the UFC and feel like they’ll never let him go until he retires.

I wouldn’t doubt if people like Lawler and Condit were cut too. Both have had terrible runs since they fought each other, yet they are fairly expensive to keep on the roster. I would have thought Lawler was safe as a fan favorite, but unfortunately, those are the types that will probably be likely to go if they aren’t putting on the shows that they used to.

Weird shit. Crazy how in 2020 we still put on events like this and people will still buy. Paul hasn’t even faced an actual boxer but he gets a fight with the goat? Mayweather definitely just recognizes how popular he is and is willing to take that free money.
