Small town checking in. About an hour and a half outside of Chicago with less than 350 people. No stop lights here. Mostly, people are going about their lives. The shop that my husband works at up the street is working like normal, no masks (except him), theres not even bottles of sanitizer out. We had 2 bars at the beginning of Covid. One is closed. Its more like a hobby for those people so it hasn't reopened and likely wont. Our other full service bar/restaurant is open but for curbside and pick up only. I am certain people are still drinking in there though because the podunk cop that patrols here already told them they weren't going to do anything about them being open. The people that do have jobs are all working. My 70 year diabetic dad still goes "to town" for milk 3x a week. They either do not care or they don't believe its real. My zip code has had 23 cases since March and the population for the zip is just a smidge over 600 total.

Sounds so interesting as someone in what can only be described as suburban sprawl between a major city and a small city. It's people on top of people here.

You've been saying your county overall though has been having a hard time and hospitals are full up, right?

Lately yes. I just talked to my supervisor on Tuesday and she said even the Urgent Care is swamped. The smaller outlier hospitals are having to take patients from the critical care hospitals to make more room up there. It's insane. Our closest cardiac center was put on bypass a few different times in the last few weeks because of capacity issues. I haven't had that happen once since I've been in EMS.

... I think u might be talking about my hometown lol unless theres another place like that nearby i dont know about. Idk this towns local businesses attracts a decent amount of traffic from around the area so our cases are surprisingly low compared to montgomery county imo.

I live in a town of 18000 and we have had about 700 cases since March (and I think almost 300 since the start of November). The town next to me has had a total of 20 all the back to March, granted they only have a population of roughly 1000, but still, a notably lower rate than us. I attribute it mostly to the fact that it is a beach town and a good chunk of people just have summer houses there, and now they are back up in New York or wherever. But for those that live there now, guess they don't have too much to worry about if they don't leave town.

haha I think I described like half of the towns in Chester county now that I look at it. It’s funny because they only have a few hundred cases but on the Chester county map they’re like a deep blue, I guess because the population is so small

Me and my giant head won’t be participating in any hats, but i won’t mock those that do because I will enjoy knowing how much it’ll troll Trump fans.

As someone from NH, I don't have a ton of faith that many people here have been bothering to get tested. The only people I know that have been tested are either people who were required to in order to fly somewhere for leisure, or because they had possible exposure to someone who tested positive. But, who knows. The numbers have been shockingly small on paper and the hospitals haven't been overrun.

Honestly i havent spent much time in the more rural parts of the county. I was working down close to the state line last week and learned that day that this county is the mushroom capital of the world lmao the more u know. But yea When this whole thing started i was wondering the same thing as u but looking at the dakotas and montana and shit clealry even more remote places arent immune.

Yeah and the region they go to (Canaan/Enfield area) has some pretty right wing areas minus the Dartmouth area I think. That story about that town that was taken over by libertarians and then by bears was not too far down the road from there I think haha

Yeah I live in DE so I am well aware of the mushroom farms haha. You can smell one of them as soon as you cross the state line over near here, and they go clear down to Kennett and beyond I believe.

My mom's family is from up in Pheonixville so that was the place I was describing. I think they have like 3-400 cases total which I guess is a lot by itself but like, the zipcodes around me here in Delaware have all had that much/more despite being smaller and more tightly compacted than the phoeonxville township on the Chester County covid map haha. Though obviously Phoenixville has legit 'city' streets in portions so I guess they are pretty dense in areas.

Yup haha my hunch was right. My thought is that a lot of the ppl still coming here for the restarants and bars on the weekends dont live here and so that could be taking away from our positive cases and adding to other nearby towns.
