Can we talk about how bad the NFL is at handling COVID?

Yep. My brother coaches travel hockey and his season got cancelled earlier this month after trying to just “make it work”

Do life insurance companies not realize that everyone dies eventually and that they'll have to do payouts at some point for every customer regardless of whether or not they had covid?

I guess it's a matter of them not wanting to do a bunch of payouts at once

It looks like they were applying for term life insurance, which only pays out if the person dies within that term. It looks like their data (or the lack thereof) shows there's an increased likelihood of people who had COVID dying within whatever that term was here and the risk was beyond what their model allows them to accept.

When's the last time we had a president who was nearly universally liked? That was liked (generally) on a personal level like Obama, but had actual good policies that everybody liked and resulted in good things happening to the country? Has the US ever had one? All the way back to Lincoln?

I'm sorry, but these situations are not at all the same. Gay marriage got decided at the state level, then confirmed in the courts with Obergefell. The result of that decision undercut literally half the country who had already decided at the state level to ban or discriminate against same-sex marriage.

I'm not at all against fighting to defund the police, but having a take on the best possible national strategy to do so that differs from the more progressive folks' wishes shouldn't be met with widespread derision. Everyone who is coming to solve this issue in good faith should be listened to, and jumping down throats over a headline or a paragraph is a waste of everyone's time.

That is incompatible because "good policies" is subjective. Reagan won by a landslide and carried nearly every single state twice, but that doesn't mean he fits your description. Read more history; people hated Lincoln.

I’m not defending him but Clinton has the best job approval rating of an outgoing President of the modern era in part to a booming economy and most people didn’t seem to care about the Lewinsky scandal and he admitting to lying about.

It's not about the situations themselves, it's about the ideology. What's popular now doesn't define what's right, and pragmatism shouldn't be synonymous with backing down.

as "basis for immediate bipartisan, bicameral negotiations" - that mean still advocating more stimulus checks? Or is that off the table now
