I think the primary proved at least one of 3 things true...

1. There's not as much of an appetite for left wing policies as we'd hope
2. The left is just really bad at messaging and convincing voters
3. People were just really, really scared of Trump winning and "Played pundit" with their vote picking the person they thought had the "best chance" of winning.

A lot of polling backs up #3

 

A lot of voters thought that way because of #2

 

#3 seems the most accurate from what my experience. I definitely heard a whole bunch of "well, Biden's not great but Bernie can't win, so we have to vote for him because he's the only one who can win."

 

I guess one thing you have to give to Biden is that I've never seen a candidate tell so many people to vote for his opponent and still win (pretty sure he did the same thing with a climate activist as well, maybe a few others too)

 

Media coverage matters. It may not matter to those of us more online but msm constantly bashing Bernie and Warren’s policies as unelectable had to have had a big impact. It’s hard to convince voters through texting and phone calling when you’re up against something that’s still seen as authoritative as the msm. I’m really proud of the on the ground work the left put in during the primary, it just isn’t enough on its own right now though.

Folks like to believe that Republicans and Democrats are activated in different ways, but FUCK DONALD TRUMP worked pretty well in 2020.
