None of his singles got nominated this year, so I doubt the album will get nominated.

I don’t think the album was eligible this year due to it coming out in September-hence why I said “next year”.

But the singles came out during eligibility, and they weren’t nominated for anything. Kinda shows they have no interest in nominating MGK.

The album is also incredibly bad and he 100 percent does not deserve more recognition

TTMD? I disagree, wholeheartedly. Never a fan of his before it but it’s a great album IMO. Totally helped resurrect pop punk into the mainstream. If you disagree, you haven’t been listening. Is it Grammy worthy? I think
So but To each their own.

That album did absolutely nothing for pop punk.

No pop-punk band is saying "Thank you, MGK, for getting us back in the spotlight." That album only benefits him, not the genre.

I don’t know-I think the genre could definitely benefit from a pop punk album debuting at #1 in general. Even if it’s just, let’s say streaming or whatever. Same for radio-People listen to him & then check out another pop punk band because they checked/heard him that they wouldn’t have before. And that helps the genre. That’s more my point.

Not even getting into the quality of it, which is Simple Plan/NFG level, something you quickly grow out of after high school, it's just absolutely not something that would be on the Grammys radar

People said the same shit about Five Seconds of Summer. They didn't help the genre, either.

Blink’s “California” was nominated for best Rock album & that did less numbers than MGK first week. Not saying grammy’s only look at that but TTMD was a very commercially successful album that could get a nom. It might not too. But you can’t say its absolutely out of the question.
I’m not going to argue this all day, tho. We see it differently. All good!

Well, they did but obviously not in your eyes. ANY band that sells millions of records is helping their genre in some way whether it’s by streaming, word of mouth, people going to shows, whatever. Doesn’t mean there’s gonna be a huge revival of 2001 pop punk bands from MTV/TRL era, haha- Never said that. Whether it’s MGK, 5 Seconds, whoever it may be.But it keeps the genre alive/afloat in the mainstream, anyway. And I think that’s a good thing if you’re a fan of the genre.

I was wrong-Just looked it up. My fault. Blink actually sold more off California first week but both debuted at #1 both having big singles on the charts, yada yada
So, I still think anything is possible ✌️

California was nominated because they’re a “legacy band” at this point. Grammys don’t give a shit about relevancy when it comes to the rock and metal categories, that’s why it’s almost always filled with big names and lackluster albums.

also I’m on team MGKs album sucks so no I don’t think it’s getting nominated for anything

Again, please explain how 5 Seconds of Summer are helping pop punk when they rarely bring pop punk bands on tour? They're an arena band. They've brought State Champs and With Confidence on tour but only in Australia. Other than that, it's been alternative rock/pop rock bands like Hey Violet and Coin.

the MGK album is not only laughably bad and deserves no recognition but the thought that he is out there ‘saving’ a genre is just - i can’t believe what i am reading lol
