Like any pop genre there was definitely a lot of vapid garbage, but people really threw the baby out with the bath water on disco.

 

I was watching that Tower Record documentary and there were like anti-disco riots? Like wtf

 

I really don't like a lot of "metal" I've heard. I'm going to try and listen to a Metallica album (suggestions?) and Rein in Blood today, maybe something from a subgenre I've never really listened to (sludge?)

 

I like metal and hate Slayer, fwiw

And Justice for All is the best Metallica record. The self-titled (aka black album) is the most accessible

 

Which one is the heaviest?

 

The first 4 probably, keeping in mind that 80s production never sounds as heavy now. Kill 'Em All is the fastest. And Justice for All is the most complex.

 

also just as a general statement not directed at you I don't think vapid is necessarily a bad thing, not every song or movie needs a message

 

Oh neither do I. You can be vapid and appealing for a variety of reasons. No dispute.

Mineral is pretty boring.

 

The only Mineral song I like is Parking Lot. The rest goes right by me.

 

Stage Banter is definitely not for every musician, a lot of time, it's great to tell the crowd where your band is from and what you are going to play next, and then transition into next song. A lot of bands(Hardcore particularly) decide to do the opposite and give a speech. the content is usually real tacky and impetuous.

 

I believe this is a popular opinion.

 

I prefer Callie Torres' version of the Story to Brandi's. I'm sorry. I just do. Can't justify myself there.

I think it happens in Hardcore (where it doesn't really happen that often?) bc the singer 99% of the time doesn't have an instrument so while people are tuning or doing w/e they just start talking lol

I find it easier to relate to and am therefore more likely to enjoy smaller musicians than popular ones and I am unapologetic about that

 

What if they're both small and popular - Prince, for example
