I guess spending four years pretending to do a job you pretended to want and bitching about it the whole time doesn’t unite a nation.

Sorry to hear you’re out of work...
I’m not sure I understand the post 100%. Are you saying your 401k is just in cash? In a money market account or something like that?

Investing in the overall stock market (read: global economy’s growth, not individual companies you pick) in the long term (25+ years) is not gambling. It’s one of the best ways to make sure the money you earn grows and isn’t devalued by inflation.

What are your thoughts on robo investors like titan?

It’s very clearly why the market is >30k now, and not based on QOL metrics

robo investors on an individual level are fine, but there’s no reason to really do that when you get a similar result from a general equity based index fund, with low fees, and have a longer and established track record. Robo investing is just a fancy way to get a similar result, and are just using automated metrics to determine when to purchase/sell.

Can you explain why that is? Sorry really a novice with investing.

I don’t use any, but haven’t done enough research on them. Quickly looking up titan, I see it has a 1% advisory fee (for investments over $10K) in addition to an average expense ratio of 0.03%. So it has to consistently beat the market by 1.003% even to break even with a boring total market index fund. Does it have a history of doing so? What reasons do you think it will continue to do so? Those are questions I’d consider before using Titan.

@stars143 explained it for your own personal investing perspective, but many people don’t realize that a majority of investing is already controlled by extremely complex investing algorithms and transactions through automation, similar to things like titan. If the projected outcome of a smooth Biden transition outweighs the scaled impact of current loss of employment and other Coronavirus impacts, market will go up. I have a theory that there’s a weighted impact on public statements by Govt officials that the Trump admin clearly knew about, and were gaming through the walk backs of his Twitter statements, not through just manual trading processes.

My god. Reading through this is fucking wild.

lol ex-Proud Boy. How do you get involved in that shit and finally go, "you know what? these guys are fucked."

They were the Proud Boys. The "first degree" of membership in the Proud Boys is to declare you are one, which Schultz later did. The second degree is to be punched while reciting the names of five breakfast cereals, which he did, too.
"It was just a joke. No one hits hard," Schultz says. "The five breakfast cereals is a joke that's supposed to emulate getting beat into a gang. You know, it is just a spoof, a parody, but it got taken too far."
Here's another supposed joke: An ex-member recently said on the encrypted messaging app Telegram that he was staging a coup so Proud Boys would no longer capitulate to the left: "We recognize that the West was built by the White Race alone and we owe nothing to any other race." Proud Boys chairman Enrique Tarrio said there was no coup. Then both sides said they were just joking.

Set up an account at one of the brokerage sites and invest and HOLD in mutual/index funds. There are plenty of people smarter than me, who can explain the difference between the 2 and what exactly to look for in regards to specific accounts and fees etc, but to me, it's been a pretty safe way to set money aside and watch it grow. You have to avoid the temptation to panic about the downs and understand it's the long game. Even if it's a few hundred bucks a month, you'll be glad in 5-10 years you did it. Use some of the investment calculations to fully understand the impact. $200/month at a moderate rate of return would gain you a few thousand in growth over 5 years on top of the money you put in. Dump in a few other larger amounts through those 5 years, and it can lead to significant growth. I have never done individual stocks as I think it takes too much active management whereas a mutual/index fund is managed by someone who theoretically is buying and selling to make sure you're always taking advantage of the market trends. Not saying this is the best one, but I am putting my money in RPGEX which is a higher than average risk but extremely high returns thus far.
EDIT: Not related to your 401k. Just general advice from someone who barely knows what they're talking about.
