Probably my favourite out of all the new releases (not too much above Magic Trick). It really is the best autobiography to his journey to finding himself again. Ranking the releases so far:

"Companion (feat. Elle King)" is out now.

There's a sense of nostalgia with this one: "When it all comes down to you" right away reminded me of the exact part of "When it all comes crashing down" in "Life of the Party" by Boys Like Girls. The lyrics and the arrangement. Also, the instrumentals (in the beginning and throughout the song) are very reminiscent of "You Oughta Know" by Alanis Morisette. If I didn't know any better, I would had thought that's what I was listening to at first.

So infectious and could be my top track yet (?!)

These songs are good, but every time an artist I like does something like this, it reminds me how deeply I loathe the “one single at a time” release strategy. Who is most responsible for this trend in modern music and what can I do to delete that person from history?

 

Yup. I think it makes the weaker songs stand out more than if they just existed on an album as a whole. I also tend to get artist fatigue.

 

I remember Martin saying he felt that dropping the whole album (this was during the pandemic and the rise of BLM) would be overlooking what's going on. Had I known he was going to release a few not in this fashion, I would had waited like I normally do, too. I usually only listen to one or track releases beforehand.

 

It only takes a few months before I forget I heard half the album before the rest

 

I've listened to these songs like once each, this one I just listened to the preview. I just have no real use for singles in my life lol.

Finally listened to the full Night Game discography. I really like the dancy jams.

I wish we would have got one more BLG record like the last one, but between this and Dan + Shay, I feel like that's close enough.

 

Seeing instastories of everyone playing the new record on vinyl and CD is not making me crave for this album more. Not at all. Not interested. At all. Could. not. care. less.

First time listening to this in years - man, some really great tracks on this thing
