The people I see doing it are ... very rich privileged white people with wfh jobs that are posting photos of being at bars/on vacations in my Instagram and Facebook feed, for some anecdata. From my window where I'm sitting, I can see about 20 people inside the restaurant across the street from me, average age has to be 50+ .. no masks, inside, about 3-4 feet apart at best.

 

This is ... heartbreaking.

I definitely see a lot of that too and am not for absolving them. But I also see a lot of lower wage people who are being asked to risk their lives working jobs that necessitate interaction with a lot of people, who then shrug their shoulders and go “well I already serve 100 people a day, what’s it matter if I see another group of people or go to a restaurant” and pause when it feels like we’re ignoring the impossible, fucked up situation we’ve put a lot of people in. I wish it were as easy as everyone understood their responsibility and stayed at home as much as they could, but given the complete mismanagement of the response to the pandemic, I can at least understand where it’s coming from in those cases and would personally divert my frustration towards our lack of a stimulus and another shutdown, which is so obviously necessary, and it’s personally hard for me to get as riled up about people essentially doing what their government says is okay, even though it’s not okay, if that makes sense.

 

Yeah I’m totally shaming the wealthy people posting their extravagant birthday parties and shit because they just have to maintain their self importance. I certainly feel for people in poor and volatile households but that’s not what’s in my face everyday when I open social media. It’s influencers and celebrities, and privileged people who want to be those things.

 

A girl that was in my wedding just posted about wanting suggestions for a Disney trip for her family. It's infuriating.

Yeah, I have a coworker who went to Disney, another co-worker who went on a tropical island location somewhere, and another who just flew down to Florida to tour colleges with her daughter. People are insane.

Good to hear :). I just found a 2018 with 48k miles for $15,000. Seems like a really good deal for the year and mileage. What year is yours/how long have you had it? Would you say it's pretty comfortable? I have a lot of lower back problems and will miss the comfy seats in my 97 Lexus lol.

I do think the government certainly gives the notion that doing things like going to bars and restaurants is "safe" because they are allowing them to be open and especially when they don't have mask mandates and strict rules for these things. But I think a big driver right now and a problem is people who are going to or having large gatherings or parties and stuff. I know there were lots of people who had parties on Halloween, I know there are plenty of people planning on having a big family gathering for Thanksgiving. Everyone should agree that it isn't okay and it is largely irresponsible. I don't see any reason to ridicule someone for going out to a restaurant or hanging out with a few of their friends, especially when the government has largely endorsed that kind of behavior. But when it comes to larger gatherings, whether it be a wedding, party, big family dinner, or just a get together with a bunch of people, that behavior absolutely needs to be called out.

Dining indoors is extremely dumb. Dining outdoors at a public restaurant is still a huge risk I'm completely unwilling to take, but I don't judge people for that with the misinformation out there. I also don't judge people who hang out with 1 or 2 people outside, on their private property, distanced from each other. As long as everyone is on the same page, believes in masks, and that the virus isn't a hoax.
