The Series S is surprisingly tiny, surprisingly powerful and shockingly fast. It runs Borderlands 3 at what I perceive as a flawless 4K 60. Apex is a bit blurrier but once you get into the thick of things it’s really good too.
I am kind of shocked that a console that’s 300 bucks and about the size of half a shoebox performs on par with the One X.

That said due to the limited storage space (and the cost to mitigate this shortcoming) I can’t recommend it to anyone who will be using it as their main console, but it’s a perfect companion piece to a pc or ps5.

 

My nephew is getting a Series S because it’s significantly cheaper but runs all new games. He doesn’t care about 4K. I think he won’t be the only one. That console is an interesting and probably pretty smart move, especially with game streaming becoming more viable and common. That said I’ll get a Series X because I want the power, even if I don’t have the right TV yet lol Also I have so many discs.

but also given that a PS5 (digital) is a mere 100 bucks more I am not quite sure the value proposition is there.

 

I can't believe I haven't seen more reviewers talking about this. Themes were one of the coolest little features of the PS4.

 

100€ is a lot for many people. Also he has a big back catalogue so that’s part of it too.

Ah nice. I guess the new generation has an advantage because it can apparently run at 120fps or something (maybe not on Series S, idk), but then again most TVs do not support that anyway.

 

You need to invest quite some money in a tv to get that kind of frame rate. And Apex is 1440p 60 on both so far.

that said warzone unlocked 120fps on series x in the last update.

I want to buy a TV next year. I’m not sure if one that supports 120 would be worth it? Or do you think it won’t be widespread this gen?
