Halloween is so good.

 

i really love this. the BI influence doesn't really bother me at all anymore. the songwriting is so different and it's beautiful in its own right. i think as a whole, i might prefer this to birthplace.

 

At song 2 I almost dropped out. Awful.

Sounds like a shallow rip off from Bon Iver, really. No.

Weirdly, Opaline is not on the pinwheel sticker of the record? Thankfully it’s just a weird misprint but it was tripping me out

 

All the vinyl are completely different right? Mine is orange.

 

July feels like a lifetime ago, honestly cannot remember if I was told what color it was supposed to be or not hahah. But I ordered through AmbientInks and wound up with this really cool electric purple looking thing.

Edit: ah, yeah, forgot that @sean_rugy posted about it earlier in the thread. It’s recycled vinyl, so no two colors will be the same. Very cool

I guess he put out an ambient album today? Idk what the story here is but it’s pretty good, if you’re into that kind of thing. Got to the end and felt like I’d just spent 30 minutes in a spa lol

 

Also evidently he’s got a fall tour, had no idea. Haven’t seen him since he was promoting Birthplace, but it was a great show

In January I got the opportunity to spend 3 weeks in Antarctica aboard the Greenpeace research ship Arctic Sunrise, to join an expedition counting penguins. Randomly, in the middle of preparing for tour, building a new studio and all the social obligations of Christmas, I found myself on a ship 8,000 miles from home, floating amongst icebergs larger than my hometown, removed from the world with minimal distraction. I had a small recording setup with me: my Op-1 synthesiser, a microphone, guitar and a laptop.

As well as being removed from my home life, I'd removed myself from all my instruments, my studio, and means of making music. I was hindered by my situation, but also inspired by it, and inspired by the nature of where I was, and I began to make music. Just music, no words.

When my 21 days aboard the ship came to an end, I had made 30 minutes of instrumental music, and this is what I want to share: an album I made on a ship over 3 weeks sailing the Antarctic. It is, in music form, an unrefined exhibition of my time in Antarctica, and on that ship
