I think Individual Thought Patterns is the consensus for best Death album right? Which yeah I put it on again earlier, and is still incredible. The drumming on that album is outstanding. Though Leprosy is just as fire.

don’t think that’s right - I would say Symbolic is the one most people consider the best, & personally I consider Human & the Sound of Perseverance to also be better than ITP

    all are amazing though

Hmmmm ok yeah I actually do remember Symbolic being brought up a lot. Well I know what I’m re visiting next. Such a great band either way. Very glad this thread made me aware of them.

A split EP from VCTMS and Falsfier.

RIYL: Deathcore like The Acacia Strain, Bury Your Dead, riffs, breakdowns.

Also, that cover art is ridiculous!

I'm betting it's an EP. They were recording at God City not too long ago according to their IG stories. Really wanna know who did that art.

This is really cool and speaks to metal lovers at large. A really cool email we received.
(Eden and Nick are the chief editors of the site btw)

    Hi Eden and Nick,

Hey, just want to say to you and to everyone at HBiH that your site has been such a sanctuary for me this past year or so.

HBIH is one of a handful of sites (together with No Clean Singing, Invisible Oranges, CVLT Nation and Last Rites) that I feel, as someone who loves extreme metal, that I belong in a metal community. As a gender nonbinary person, who hates the sexism and misogyny in metal, who has decentralised anarchist politics, and who often talks about how extreme metal makes me feel (including vulnerable, in a good way) I've often felt that I don't belong in metal communities. I really love the way you understand that politics is in everything we do, including how we relate to music, and the choices we make about music.

If it wasn't for sites such as yours, I would have stopped listening to extreme metal again (which I did 30 years ago for about 15 years as I felt a fish out of water in metal communities, I hated the macho-ness and sexism), which would have meant having to suppress a part of me. It really is possible to love extreme dark music like Primitive Man and Triptykon and to be effeminate, vulnerable and non-macho at the same time - but none of my family and friends in my communities like any form of metal, let alone blackened sludge or discordant black metal, so I often feel alone in my passion for extreme music.

Thank you for helping to expand metal into a place that more people can belong to, and for inviting metalheads like me to reflect on the choices we make either to be complicit with or to challenge oppressive systems and practices.

I know you must receive a lot of flak for your political stances, a lot of criticism to 'keep politics out of metal', which is of course impossible. Pretending that we can be apolitical in metal means accepting the creeping right-wing nationalism in metal, and accepting embedded patriarchy within the scene. Thanks for having the courage to hold the line, and for taking your political analysis further in recent months.

    With much appreciation and gratitude,

    Rodney
