  4. I've got a Dr. Z Maz 18 Jr. It's a spectacular amp and I'm very impatient for my work day to end so I can plug this in.

Slightly strange bit of purchasing going on from me today. There's a green LTD-EC1000 that's currently on a blow-out deal in the UK for £750. I was sort of intrigued anyway, but in the end decided it wasn't worth the extra cash to the replace the black 2016 model I got in the summer.

Then someone stuck one on Reverb for £600. It's brand new, with all the case candy, original shipping box and all the wrapping still on the hardware. Jumped on that, as I'm fairly confident I can sell on the black one for around £500, assuming I like the new one better.

The upshot of this is that for about £100-150 outlay (and with a little luck), I'll have upgraded from a pretty battered SG Special to a brand new, shiny (and green!) LTD.

Unless it's not as fun as the older model. Then I'm a massive dumbass. :crylaugh:

Just randomly lurking this thread & read your comment and had to reply cos I'm in a relatable situation. I'm also from the UK and been looking to upgrade with a new guitar (from my fender strat) but also been heavily eyeing up the LTD EC-1000 guitar but in black (probably with the Seymour Duncan pick-ups). It's such a beautiful looking/sounding guitar.

Hoping to purchase an LTD EC-1000 somewhere to treat myself for Christmas but may look sooner if lockdown is extended was contemplating buying it cheaper second-hand or new from Peach Guitars for ~£850 (with monthly payments) so I'm still looking

Interesting. Assuming the new one is a keeper, my black one is going to be available. I'll most likely be making that decision this week.

It's the 2016 Duncan equipped model I think, which means it's one of the Korean ones (if that matters to you) and has the older, more traditional style neck joint rather than the newer chamfered one. It's on page 33 (17 in the pdf) of this:

    https://cdn.connectsites.net/user_f...12/964/ESP-2016-Catalog-Screen.pdf?1454529736

The Duncans (JB and 59) mean it has a pretty modern/hot, versatile vibe, rather than the all out rage of the EMG models. Guitar plays like a really slick, reworked LP.

If you're interested, drop me a PM and I'll give you some more detail about the condition and the background of this one.

Yeah, that's the exact same model I've got my eyes on! My love for guitar got reinvigorated this summer after having spare time from being furloughed from work and also buying Rocksmith on PC (already my most played game by far thanks to the CDLC). I'm self-taught and only at about an intermediate-range but I said I'd reward myself with a new guitar by Christmas if I kept playing almost-daily and I have stuck to my word. Also, my beloved fender strat only has 21-frets so I was getting frustrated on missing notes in solos because of that so felt like it was time to upgrade.

I always fancied the LP style of guitar because of GnR and the iconic Guitar Hero 3 with its LP plastic peripheral days. With that in mind, I started looking at Gibson's then learnt how crazily expensive they were, then looked at Ephiphones and browsed other brands for a little while. But then I discovered the existence of the ESP LTD-EC brand of guitars and was mesmerised by both its beauty and sound and with the Duncan pickups it seems to have a good tone/versatility for different genres. Again, I'm a bit of a novice/learner still but the reviews were really positive so I've been set out on seeking that guitar.

    I'll drop you a message!

Recs on free or relatively cheap PC amp modeling software purely for screwing around and practicing?

All I've used so far is free/trial AmpliTude. The cost of separate packages for amps on that seems kind of ridiculous, and I don't like the hokey UI, either. I'd almost prefer plugins for Audacity or at least a DAW-like format, rather than this MS-Paint-drawing-of-an amp bullshit that seems common to the most popular software... that can't make recording very easy.

Anyway, something that covers a lot of bases in metal and rock for like $50 or less would be great, if it exists.

yeah, I’ve been listening to early Korn and Deftones a ton the past couple months so I wanted to dip my toes in the 7 string pool and not spend a ton. seller listed it as a 7221, but it’s actually a 7521, and I got it for $170 so it was p much a steal imo. only real issue I have with it is the lowest string doesn’t seem to handle being tuned anything lower than A well at all (and even that is still a bit of a stretch it seems), but I did my research before I bought it and knew I would be dealing with that. hoping that switching to a thicker string gauge will help with that.

I'd go tortoise. It would contrast the body in a nice way. White would blend in too much.

Last year I changed my white pick guard on my Olympic white strat to mint, so if you go white on white we will have gone oppositsies

I vote white on white cos I like the clean matching colours. I have a black on black strat and it looks so gooooood.

I've got a white on white as well. Olympic White tends to be a little off colour, so it doesn't tend to match the pickguard too much. Might clash a bit with the aged pickup covers and controls though. :/

yeah the Olympic is kinda cream which is why I feel I need to get rid of the mint color with it

I’m thinking about changing knobs and pup covers too

I have white jazzmaster with tortoise shell pickguard and a zebra striped bridge pickup. I think that combo looks cool. But it’s also on a completely different body shape than a strat lol.

On strat, I like the white on white a lot. I also rreeallly like the white/mint green combo you already have going on.

Got around to modifying my Harley Benton DC Junior. I have a Seymour Duncan Antiquity P90 Dog Ear on the way too. Such a cool little guitar. I named him Dijon after the mustard.

The amp is new too. If you’re in the market for a small tube amp, check out the Fender Super Champ. The X2’s give you 16 amp modeling options. This one is a Fender Special Run as it comes with a Celestion Greenback speaker and different aesthetics, but they sell base model versions for around $300 I think. Cool little 15W tube amps.

    Slow down, Quentin Supporter

I've got a Mexican-made strat that I bought in 2013. I've noticed that it is super mid-heavy, but that's less of the problem. The in-between positions (2 and 4 of the five-way) are substantially quieter when plugged up into an amp. Any ideas what might be causing that and what, if anything, it might cost to get her fixed up? I'm in love with my Gretsch jet baritone and want to give my strat some more love, but don't want to drop tons of cash in if it's not worth it. Flirted with trading it up for a new telecaster (more of my music style), but the strat's got some personal/memorial value for me.
