One of the weirdest results of the election to me is the apparent insane increase in turnout that is not accompanied by the traditional expectation of a big Dem victory. Not sure how to square that at all

Trump's base turned out. Just comparing maps in PA, for example, some rural counties had even bigger turnout for Trump than in 2016 and Biden either barely did better than HRC or, in some cases, did the same/worse than she did.

I think I was looking at Texas and it was the same deal. Trumps base turned out, especially in rurals. But even in urban places they came out. Biden increased turnout 200K in Houston, but Trump increased his 145K. If Dems wanna win Texas they gotta net more than 65K votes out of the urban centers over the 2016 totals.

I hope Sean Hannity's accusations that 30 states were flipping Trump votes to Biden wasn't another example of "blaming the left for something we're doing" lol

Which makes me wonder if this election was an aberration with Trump being such an overwhelmingly popular figure among conservatives or what. Again the traditional logic for as long as I've followed politics is that a bigger turnout, on aggregate, helps the Dems. This year's numbers crushed 2016 and 2008, and yet Biden barely won, Dems lost seats in the House and likely won't retake the Senate, and I believe I saw someone say that the Dems lost a couple state legislatures. Does this result not completely wreck that notion?

I'm 31 and there has been a single election in my lifetime where the republican candidate has won more votes

Meanwhile the supreme court is 6-3 in favor of the republicans, 5-3 counting those selected by presidents elected during my lifetime

Be kind; everyone is on their own journey.

Combine the outright hatred most have toward trump along with loosened mail in voting restrictions and there you go...
