very interesting that the Purity Ring is not exactly a remix but more of a rework in that it includes new vocals etc - it is fucking awesome & if we get more tracks with that approach, we’re in for a real treat (Robert Smith duet?!?!)

I love Ohms, but yeah, I don't know if a single song on it is better than Two Way Mirror. Unreal track.

 

It's still my SOTY as well. If you told me at the start of this year that we would get new albums from Deftones and Hum but the best song in that general soundscape wouldn't be by either of them I think I would have turned into a carrot on the spot

 

The Loathe album isn't among my favourites of the year (although I do like it) but that song is huge.

 

I think Loathe's next album is going to be something special.

Agreed. There’s some cool stuff on it, but I personally want them to fully embrace their Deftones sound. Get rid of their metal core side.

 

I listened to Loathe for the first time this weekend when they came up on auto play after the Emma Ruth Rundle/Thou album. I like what I’ve heard so far.

Yeah I'm in full agreement that the Loathe album is good with glimpses of absolute greatness. One step away from AOTY potential hopefully.

 

That and whatever that muddy and loud production is. Gave me a headache on my listen.

My new favourite detail on Headless is the vocal production on the last line of the verse going into the chorus; the thin distortion effect, then opening up and reverberating into the chorus vocal.

This is ultimately what kept me from getting super into this album. I would probably have loved the whole thing if it didn't physically hurt to listen to.

 

Great Song Exploder episode on the title track from this album. Includes a snippet of Stef's original demo, the band jamming it out in writing sessions and some isolated instrument and vocal tracks. Really interesting to hear the process.
