Thanksgiving is kind of a big deal in my wife's family, and it's definitely going to be weird this year.

 

thinking about the holidays give me so much anxiety

 

Yeah the holidays are going to be rough. It gives me a little peace of mind to know that me/my family staying home and not going to a large gathering is helping, even if it's in a very small way. So many people are going to gather though and fuck us over and make cases rise though.

 

Our first child is due on November 20th. My parents live in Florida now. My wife’s whole family live in Texas.

It’s been really awful having to constantly fend off family who desperately want to be here. I know they are just incredibly excited. But it’s not fun being put in such an awkward position.

Edit: And i should add that it sucks all the more because we want them here.

 

My first child is due first week of December and my family’s all in Missouri. I feel your pain.

 

Called my aunt & uncle in Wisconsin today and told them I won’t be coming to visit on Thanksgiving & Christmas this year. Family gatherings have always been very important to them, and their feeling now is very much, “Well, we can’t just not have people over for the holidays.”

Had to tell my sister we wouldn't be able to come to MO for Christmas for the second year in a row. I can't travel with dialysis unless its an emergency. Christmas has always been the "you do not miss" holiday for us and it sucks it has to be 2 years in a row now.

 

Roommate and their partner just returned home from being at a party for the past ~6 hours. I don’t even have the words.

Something I do not understand. Region 2 is the last to shut down anything but it’s now officially coming Wednesday. Why do we wait DAYS between the announcement and closure? I feel like that just encourages people to get their last minute bar/restaurant fix and therefore spreading more germs. I don’t get it.

But yay, closures.

 

My guess is that any less notice may be considered too abrupt for many businesses to make proper adjustments in operations & accommodations for people affected by them.

It is definitely upsetting that a handful of people will consider that a window to fit in some last-minute recklessness, though.

I mean at this point they have to go Tier 3 right, especially with the warnings on hospital capacity? Ban on non-essential retail, doing only takeout, stopping all sports.

 

Just a matter of when. At this point there’s not really anything to indicate positivity rates in IL will go down and stay “low” without tighter restrictions being imposed.
