Something I have not seen addressed much is that I have noticed that the families of the victims of the police killings are almost always saying that they don't want violence, that it isn't the answer. It won't bring the life of the victim back and it won't get them justice. What's the line between believing "they are right, we should take matters peacefully" vs. "they are wrong, we have to do things violently to get our way"

 

Simply put, looting is a symptom of the problem, not the cause. The thing that caused the looting causes those business to be harmed.

In a perfect world, it would be possible to treat the situation with nuance. But the very presence of those problems indicates that we're past that point - and this country's power structures ensure that the only people who really pay the price for civility are the same ones who the system hurts in the first place. Those business owners aren't being done any favors if you avoid looting but they get gunned down in the street just for existing around a trigger happy cop.

Edit summary: You can't address the reaction as though it exists in a vacuum. Looting is a reaction to a violent system. If you are anti-looting, you have to reject the system that necessitates it.

I still don’t buy it, FL was one state. Judging by the polls, he’d have to do this in multiple states to win. Plus, and I can’t stress this enough, his administration and team are not slick enough to pull this off.

 

The fact that their strategy is deeply flawed and ultimately will fail doesn't negate the extreme damage they will do getting there.

The 3rd Reich was living on borrowed time too. Every overthrown dictator was too. I'm just saying, with everything that's happened it would feel deeply naive to me to pretend to know where the bottom of how bad this thing could get is.

 

I certainly hope you’re right. But I thought Hillary was going to win easily so for all I know it could come down to one state or some tens of thousands of votes over a couple states. And in that scenario the Supreme Court could steal another one.

 

It doesn't help that American opposition (in the government) to the Trump admin has been effectively toothless. That clearly wasn't the case in the failed coups in South America.

The democratically elected leader fled the country and a bunch of indigenous protesters were killed. Lol wtf is this shit?

 

And that coup failed

 

She was close to victory though. She was polling well. Razor close in some key states. Her campaign sucked in hindsight but we could be saying the same thing about Biden.
