There's so much bullshit from back then that people don't understand. Madison pretty much forced the Constitution on the Convention, as that meeting was to modify the Articles not replace it. The whole Constitution being a limit on democracy, not a push for it. It was all means to keep the rich, white men who wrote the damn thing to continue to be just that.

There is a reason they boarded up the windows and doors of the hall as to not allow the general public to get word of what was happening. It wasn't because they were being patriotic lol.
