yup. our council and county just met to discuss what we're gonna do to try and lower the positivity rate over the new few weeks otherwise the state health department is gonna force us to go back from phase 2 to phase 3. Right now we're at 4.8% positivity rate and if we hit 5.0% we automatically have to go back. We just approved 1.1 million in remaining CARES Act funds to small business grants, senior services grants, child care grants, and rent/mortgage relief grants hoping to help residents out before we go back :/

small gatherings in people's backyards, schools, places of worship, and restaurants are unsurprisingly the spreader events in our county right now. damn who woulda guessed

Except this isn’t what anyone is saying. It’s a response to people acting as if once the Dems get in control then all will be right with the world, which is 100% the mindset of the types who do the whole “If Trump is out then I can finally go back to not paying so much attention to politics” schtick

Is your take really “pointing out who the elected officials that preside over the death of innocent people at the hands of the state are is worse than turning the dead into a mascot for those same elected officials”? Cuz that’s what this sounds like and it is a baffling stance.

you want to vote for Dems because you see it as harm reduction compared to republicans or whatever? Cool, go for it, that makes sense. Hiding from the fact that electing democrats hasn’t done - and will continue to not do - shit for oppressed people is going to prevent any meaningful justice from being achieved.

No, my take is that anti-electorialiasm is an intellectually bankrupt excuse for lazy internet cynicism that doesn't want to face the difficult process of undoing decades of republicans throwing sand in the gears of democracy.

We can say electing democrats "hasn't done shit" but saying that without the context that 1) The system has been perverted by the right to undo or stifle any attempts at progress 2) by and large people have not been engaged with democracy enough to care about the down ballot races that actually effect local concerns 3) young people still do not turn out to vote in nearly high enough numbers to convince politicians to cater to them and doing so could actually create consistent dem majorities that don't have to moderate themselves to fend off republican challengers, is both irresponsible and misleading.

And look no, pointing that out is not bad, keep dems accountable. But the subtext of that tweet is clearly telling Gabrielle Union she's wrong in thinking drumming republicans out of government wouldn't markedly improve things which, and this is my opinion so if we disagree that is fine, I think is complete bullshit

I think chalking up the history of perversion of our electoral system entirely on republicans is facile when liberals have taken up right wing causes again and again at every level of government, i think chalking up low voter engagement to individuals as if they “don’t care” instead of recognizing that they have been disenfranchised and/or turned off by politicians failing them constantly is offensive, and your comment about young people not voting is ahistorical (look at Obama 08 completely ditching his platform after young voters turned out for him in record numbers and pushed him to a landslide). So yeah, i think you’re wrong in all your conclusions on this. We can call that disagreeing.

Ultimately, I just think dismissing valid concerns as inherently bad faith is a way of insulating the Democratic Party from criticism.

As best I can tell, Krystal Ball is part of that non-ideological that i associate with most TYT contributors and don’t feel especially compelled to pay attention to ever.

yeah I feel like i said similar a few weeks ago about how the Republicans are used to a new kind of politics that the old ass Dem leadership hasn’t caught up to yet because they all came to power in the 80s and 90s when the Dems had to be Third Way types to win elections and they just haven’t adjusted. Hopefully the 20s sweeps some of these people into retirement.
