tbh I've always thought that if Voodoo was slowed down by about 45% and had some more atmospherics it could almost pass for a Neurosis song lol. I'm probably alone in this and that's fine.

 

My first concert ever was when I was a wee high schooler back in the day and I saw Godsmack with Papa Roach and In This Moment. I mostly went for Papa Roach but I came away fans of all three groups. Godsmack for as corny as they are put on a fine show. They had this bit where they would throw solo cups of beer into the audience and it was the crowd's job to catch it without spilling. Dumb, but funny.

Also I saw a man in the crowd dancing at his girlfriend with pelvic thrusts in time with the riffs but that's neither here nor there.

 

Voodoo is a legit great song. I remember it was the theme to MTV’s Fear and it was a perfect theme

 

Alright. Enough nu-metal talk. Let's get back to the bleakness of 2020 with this.

Neat cover. Dig the cleans...also a further reminder of how old I'm getting when it's becoming in vogue to cover songs from records I got into during high school.

 

Well to be fair they did it because the band is performing the entire record in full at 2000 Trees next year and was something fun to do while in quarantine. Ithaca decided to go the extra mile and actually record it.

 

I realize that there's some context around it, but again, it makes me feel old to see an act that I see as contemporary get the tribute album treatment. It's different than when it's an act like Iron Maiden, Metallica, Judas Priest, or even something like Celtic Frost. Just more of an observation than anything else about how time has progressed and how influential Thrice has become.

Edit: Just realized Identity Crisis came out 20 years ago. Oh god lol.
