If I could just forget it

I think it's a symptom of their new design philosophy. I wonder if this will enact any meaningful change. I guess it depends on how this affects their bottom line.

I mean, Commander is now their only viable format, so it won't.

Also, with them selling Secret Lair, they are printing money, even if the cards never make it to people.

Incredible. Omnath didn't even make it three weeks.

They have just been so off the mark. What is that, 29 cards banned from a format in the past two years? Eldraine looks like a huge mistake design wise at this point.

  5. They obviously need to put a focus on balancing the colors somehow for standard and instead they just keep printing these busted cards. This is like the fifth set in a row where red and green just keep getting more powerful, black and blue stay the same, and white is support only. You’d think by now they’d somehow try to rectify that when they’re designing these cards.

  6. The power shift started with the planeswalkers in War of the Spark. Since then, it’s all been downhill.

How expensive is the current meta if I were to play online only? I sold my paper collection a little while ago.

i havent been supporting WotC because i feel like they’ve been really problematic this year. Secret Lairs is dumb and I knew it was a cashgrab, but the escalation to what it is now since it was announced. Seriously Wizards/hasbro.

I don’t like the new meta too, banning and everything but I think the combination of Arena and the new design philosophy (as mentioned earlier in the thread) is what’s causing the discruption in standard. the game being this accessible + powerful sets on top of each other.

tbh i don’t know how to fix it. we can go back to a standard with a weaker power level and it’s going to be more stable, potentially less exciting but just ramping down future sets’ level from this standard. how would that even work. if future sets are weaker, they won’t be played at all.

i feel like the solution now is to just keep pushing forward and hope for the best lol. i feel so bad for the design team. this is such a huge challenge

i feel mtg fans are the consistently most disappointed fanbase but everyone’s still here.

i hate that this game is so fun

If I could just forget it

I stopped buying product a long time ago. I only buy singles every once in a while for my EDH decks. I dipped out of standard during the Energy crisis and haven't looked back.

  15. Honestly these sets are made for Arena and that’s part of the problem. It’s getting really complex which can be fun but also leads to a busted meta. Imagine trying to play Scute Swarm in paper Magic. I’ve been in games with it on Arena where my opponent has 150 tokens on the board.

I mean Commander players would scoff at the idea of only 150 tokens.

And we thought the original Mirrodin block was bad

I mean, it was. But at least it was one set. This is every set released in the past two years.

I think the community would be much more forgiving of a Mirrodin every 5 years or so. I have no problem with them experimenting, but this feels like negligence at this point.

All they have to do is cut down on ramp. That's it.

i ran into some of the newer decks (dimir rogue, simic something, rakdos something) but they never got far enough that i saw what the wincon was, maybe except dimir rogue. that looks pretty good. might try that one out too.

still haven’t lost but im climbing fron bronze so i still see a lot of bad misplays.

Man, between the broken meta and ugin, I just have no interest in playing at all anymore
