Was disappointed in no Strain or Farewell Youth, but still can't complain at that amazing setlist

 

That’s a got a lot of awesome songs spread across their albums, so I can’t imagine a bad setlist

Setlist was banging. They have so many good songs.

The Tom songs really shone for me. Last to Know, Nice Things and The Freaks were all outstanding and I think I love them now even more than I used to.

Did anyone else think Greg’s vocals seemed a bit off throughout the performance though? His voice sounded flat for me on the cleaner vocal performances, which is never the case when I’ve seen them live before.

Wonder which band will be next at Studio 4... I’m really hoping for La Dispute or Caspian.

 

Agreed about the set list and Greg’s vocals.

If Caspian gets a live stream at S4 I hope there are some lights/projections/razzle dazzle production. Same for circa survive. They’d sound great though.

 

Greg was pretty rough in the first few songs, but he got better. When they started Lookers in the middle of the set he was holding his own.

Caspian would be ideal, but I’m not sure they’d do another streaming event so soon after the one from two weeks ago.

 

Best band. Definitely a very run of the mill setlist for them but was so great to see them again even through a screen. More Exile and something from Chamberlain would have been nice!

They have never not played Nice Things haha

 

The From Exile version of Anna is still so fucking great.

“the way we decorated the walls with nothing much at all” is such a subtle but good lyric.

 

Yeah I like that they added that lyric for the FE version. Very relatable lyric for me

1/16/20 show at Boot and Saddle is on Bandcamp for today only. Absurdly awesome setlist that night that opens with Mexican Guitars and includes a bunch of songs they don’t normally play.

 

I just looked up the lyrics to Hello Exile because I couldn't make out the "here in my own _____ _____ _____ in the Poconos" and it's "island of Elba". Well wtf does that mean?... Napoleon abdicates the throne and is exiled to Elba

Mind. Blown.

 

Opening with my namesake well I had to buy it.

I think I need to create a playlist of my favorite versions of the Exile songs, because it's definitely some from Hello Exile and some on From Exile. Kind of crazy that this is their second album in a row that hit me right when I needed it - After the Party was basically my anthem the year I turned 30

For some reason, I have never even considered Greg writing solo music. I'd love that, of course.
