the closer isn't the best on the album but it hardly "sucks" cmon. lyrically extremely strong.

  2. And that last like minute and a half? That’s as great a way to close out a record as any

The bass when the band kicks in hits so hard

It’s the lyrics of the first half that really don’t work for me. It gets better when things kick in.

Not trying to be overly negative or anything. The whole rest of the record is pretty awesome

I was trying to figure out what that tone reminded me of. Ding ding ding. It’s really well-recorded

Same. Overall I'm enjoying the record though. Not as different from their previously material as I was expecting.

Honestly as I was listening I kept wondering how these guys don’t get more mainstream indie love when they really hit a lot of the same marks that make Cloud Nothings or Japandroids great, especially in the way the guitars create melody. I get that the vocals are more extreme and not everybody can get down with that, but still.

it does seem it’s been building up. but yeah, it’s deserved.

they’ve got some good coverage from Pitchfork for this album release. They’re pretty selective about bands in this genre they cover.

That’s true. It’s SO much more prominent post-Ian Cohen than it used to be, that I kinda underrate how selective they are overall.

The visual album is really well done. Highly recommend taking a trip into the lyrics with it.

“I talk myself out of myself
    When I’m overwhelmed
Is there a way to feel free
    Without being someone else?”

This really resonates with me. Reminders is honestly probably a top 3 track on this record for me.

I understand why someone wouldn’t care for the lyrical approach on the closer (there’s a clunkiness to them) but the stream of consciousness feeling of it works for me. also knowing those lyrics are largely about his bandmates and that he had to explain that to them and sing the song in front of them makes it hit harder for some reason I think. I’m also presently, actively dealing with the mental anguish that is losing family members to Trumpism, so yeah it really hits hard.

Feels good to be right in time for the discourse around it as Stage Four came out during a weird time for me. It was only much later that it finally came into my life and became my favorite Touché Amoré album.

As for this one, I'm currently finishing my first listen and I find it to be relentless, in a good way. I honestly wasn't expecting it to be this aggressive like someone else said earlier in the thread. Reminders (yup) and A Broadcast are my early favorites so far.

And by the way, it might be the first Ross Robinson record I hear since that Night Verses one and it's good to know he once again nailed it. I love how the bass is consistently highlighted. He knows how to capture great tones overall.

edit: Let me add A Forecast as another favorite. Those lyrics...

    what a waste of wood

Don’t think the closer is clunky at all. It really puts this record over the top for me tbh. It’s always risky to end an album with a track like that but they absolutely nailed it. This band, this record, is special.

I like the closer a lot musically but I’m not 100% on the lyrics. I am 100% on a broadcast tho. What the fuck is that song

This whole thing is great from front to back. I keep going back to “Come Heroine”. The first tune I heard it I was listening on headphones while playing with my son, and it just spoke so much to me about the relationship he and I have. Little dude saved me.
