That Dolphy record was way too out there for me. The first track sounds like someone is murdering a turkey. That and Ascension are past the line of what I can get into.

    A few notes:

    1. Julien is my favorite artist of all time. It's probably not "cool" to have the same artist in the one and two slot of a list like this, but it wouldn't feel representative of my taste otherwise.

    2. There's a lot of artist repetition and recency bias. Again, this list is meant to be representative of my taste at this moment in time, and I definitely fall in the category of depth, not breadth. This is something I'd like to work on, particularly in terms of adding older/classic artists into my rotation. I was never really exposed to music as a kid outside of piano lessons and whatever radio station my dad chose, so I lack a strong musical foundation in that sense. If anyone has any recs based on what's there, I'd love to hear them.

    3. I'm not happy with the number of POC on my list, particularly Black artists. I have Frank and SZA, but I could do better. I don't think it's fair or productive to criticize people's list for not being diverse enough, but it's one of my goals after this project to actively and purposefully seek out a wider range of representation in my listening. Part of this means digging deeper into genres like hip-hop, R&B, jazz, etc. Once again, I'll take any recs I can get.

    This was fun!

No better place to pick up recs than this thread. @jorbjorb had a list packed with women and PoC, as did a bunch of other posters. Happy exploring.

I absolutely love INGO, especially Nite Ratz and Title, but you cannot beat An Intorduction to the Album

    I think Nite Ratz does.

    nothing beats Soft Animal imo.

As much as I loved Home, there are multiple songs on Goodness I like more than the best on it, save maybe Dendron

“Lonely Hearts Club” is the second-best Hotelier song, right behind “An Introduction”

Shit, intro might be my 5th favorite on the album!

To be clear, their worst song is better than like 95% of the best songs from the other bands in the scene. INGO by itself would have been a Drive-Thru classic if it came out in 04.

I haven’t really wavered on them since Goodness dropped, lol.

INGO is a pop punk classic with better lyrics than just about every other pop punk classic

Home is a highpoint for the modern revival scene, whatever name you give it.

Goodness transcends it all. The atmosphere, the lyrics, everything. It is a special record that takes me to places most records don’t.

If you took the best songs that Kenny and Ace wrote and put them on a record, it would still be slightly worse than INGO, a band made up of high schoolers

This one’s too rich for my blood.

But then again I think When I Hit the Ground is a top 2 Ace record, so what do I know

nite ratz isn’t in their top 5 songs

introduction isn’t the best on the album but it’s top 3

    discomfort revisited is the best

    The 4 before Intro:
    Dendron
    In Framing
    Shape
    Discomfort

Goodness is such a weird album bc of my first time hearing it coupled with everything going on in my life at the time.

From the moment it dropped I haven’t really been able to put into words how much I love it and why it means so much to me.

It legitimately could wind up my favorite album of all time
