It's the kind of thing that was easier as a young kid online, now I just feel like I'm talking into the void and taking up space and it feels weird, but things like this, comments, and the outpouring of kind words over the past 24 hours, really have made my day and made me feel better about everything. Thank you! I've always felt like being up front is the best way to go. I don't think many realize the economics of the ad industry and how ridiculous it can be. It also all coincided with one big portion of my wife's income (performing with orchestras) also disappearing this year because ... no concerts. I know there are many others that are way more worse off than us, which is why I always feel weird about these things, but at the same time, this is how I make a living and hopefully we are providing a value in content, and/or escapism, and I've always thought that to be the case.

I'm biased, but I do really believe once you see the site ad-free and with dark mode (at least at night) there's no going back!

 

To be fair I thought the site was quick even with ads, but it's now noticeably quicker for me on my phone. Which is a nice bonus.

As someone who's been visiting this site nearly daily for the past 15 years, I'm happy to finally become a supporting member. If there is one thing 2020 has taught me, it's that we (humans) need each other now more than ever. Lend a helping hand when you can, ask for support when you need it, and above all be kind to one another. We're all in this thing together.

 

I don't need my own membership funded, I'm happy to pay. But yesterday I was thinking it would be nice to gift someone a year but don't know how to go about picking. I'm not, like, super active in the community.

Sitting here on dark mode with the sun shining directly on my monitor and can confirm there is no going back from dark mode in any light.
