Not true country but the Cat Stevens "remake" of Tea for the Tillerman is excellent and despite sounding like a bizarre concept is actually worthy of existing.

Recent Ruston Kelly and John Moreland have been in heavy rotation lately with the cooler weather. Any recs for albums with similar vibes?

Give the new Ken Yates album a try. And if you’re not familiar with him, check out Donovan Woods; he’s got a new one coming out next month, but his album from 2018 is always in regular rotation for me at this time of year.

In general. I’ve been merely a dabbler in the genre but the two albums I mentioned in particular seem to fit with where I’ve been lately

Every one of these guys has a name that just sounds like a country singer. They had no choice, really.

A friend of mine named her baby Everett Gray Montanye (which is pronounced like Montaña) and I was like this kid's gonna be gruff voiced country singer.

The new Brothers Osborne album out tomorrow is not my favorite country album of the year, but it is absolutely the most FUN country album I have heard this year. I think people in this thread would get a kick out of it.

Also some of the best playing I've heard on a record in a long time. Incredible guitarwork, and some dynamite piano playing in there too.

Listened to it on my way to work. Never been a full-album fan of theirs, mainly just liked a few songs here and there.
This is already my fav of theirs. Those first 5 songs are just haymaker after haymaker. Really love the title track.
Are you doing a review of it?

Yeah, it's pretty immediately my favorite of theirs too, which I didn't expect. The singles didn't click with me quite as quickly a the singles from the first two albums, but hearing all the songs together, it's easier to see what they were going for. Would be a monster of a record to hear them play live.

I might write something about it. I only heard it for the first time yesterday, so I wasn't really planning on it, but I'm really enjoying it, so perhaps!

It sort of sounds "live" even in an album setting, which I love, but yeah I agree. This thing was made to be played LOUD.

Parts of it even sound a bit improv-y, which is cool. I was kind of surprised it's the same producer as their first two, because it feels a little bit looser across the board.
