I first listened to 2112 because of Coheed and Cambria. Have since listened to a few other albums and various singles, and unfortunately just can't get into Rush. Everything is nice and enjoyable, but nothing has given me the wow factor

One time I was talking to Elliot from Touche and I asked if he liked Rush and he said they were too “goofy” which I thought was funny because he is a card carrying member of the aqua bats fan club.

That was the rep on Rush for literally their whole existence. They were for geeks and Dungeons and Dragons players and sci-fi/fantasy aficionados.

You can absolutely time their pivot to being accepted as mainstream "classic rock" to their appearance in Guitar Hero II. Then all of a sudden 8-14 year old campers at my job were amped about Rush.

Covers are good and people that don't like covers on the principle of them not being original material are whack

I like covers but I don’t usually like when they’re included on an album. As bonus tracks, singles, or EPs I think they’re cool.

All depends on how covers are done. You can’t tell me that Dessa’s reinvention of “I’m Going Down” isn’t vital to the story she’s telling on that album

I would enjoy it if famous bands did entire tours where they just cover their personal favorite songs. Both a funny troll on their fans but also likely really cool

I haven’t heard this song in a few years but it randomly popped in my head. Still absolutely rules.

Criticising a song for being repetitive is really poor criticism the majority of the time. It's a song, sections get repeated. Who cares if someone plays a particular motif three times?

That's not to say it's never a valid comment. It's just most of the time you'd be better off zoning in on what you're not feeling about a certain section, rather than how many times it gets played.

no problems with repetitive songs. Pat from SDF mentioned once that repetitive songs make you appreciate every slight nuance and change in the song more.
