So a weird thing about Perfect Situation - I like it a lot. It’s a great song on a great album. But I don’t think of it as one of Weezer’s most successful songs. And yet, here’s the list of Weezer songs that hit #1 on Alternative radio:

    Beverly Hills
    Perfect Situation
    Pork and Beans
    Africa
    Hero

That’s a weird list. No Buddy Holly. No Sweater Song. No Hash Pipe or Island in the Sun. No Say it Ain’t So, which is played on enough radio stations still that I swear it could chart today. I would have guessed all of those were bigger charting than Perfect Situation. But nope.

I don’t know what to do with that list. Maybe nothing. But it’s weird.

Chart placement really has to be dissected with the times, #1 in the 90s is extremely different from #1 in the 2010/20s

I remember Perfect Situation being a HUGE hit for them. Especially the video with Elisha Cuthbert.

Yeah it's funny how despite Make Believe being universally panned, I'm pretty sure that album cycle was the peak of their career.

That was the last time I saw them live. It was a co-headliner with the Foo Fighers, who were like, the biggest band alive at that time.

Did anyone go to the Hootenanny shows they were doing around the Red Album? I always thought that was a fun idea, but I have no idea how the execution went haha

I really don't think Make Believe is that bad or even universally panned? I just think the hardcore fanbase doesn't love it. It seemed to do very well actually, Weezer was everywhere that album cycle.

I missed the Foo Fighters tour. I think that was Fall 2004? But I caught them on the Summer 2005 tour with Taking Back Sunday and The Fray opening up. TBS were approaching the peak of their career (they went on to headline that arena 10 months later), and The Fray were like a month away from releasing their massive debut album. That was definitely a show to remember!

    Commercially successful. Critically panned.

(Side note: I also don't think it's as terrible as people claim it is. Far from my least favorite Weezer album).

It was the Fall of 2005 - The Foozer Tour.

I had previously seen them in 2002 with Dashboard opening for them and in 2001 with Jimmy Eat World opening for them (as well as Tenacious D). Was supposed to see them again in 2009 with TBS and Blink, but when DJ AM died, Blink rescheduled the date and Weezer and TBS didn't come back with them, which was a HUGE bummer for me.

Weezer is my original favorite band and the reason I like the kind of music I do - I was in middle school when I discovered Blue, and then I discovered Pinkerton when I was 15, and then Green and Maladroit came out when I was in high school.

Anyway, it was the summer after I graduated high school when I saw Weezer live the only time I did. The main opener was supposed to be the Strokes, but their drummer broke his arm or something, so some band I’d never heard of called Dashboard Confessional played extra long to make up for it, and Weezer played for about 90 minutes. 90 minutes of Weezer in 2002, when Blue, Pinkerton, Green and Maladroit were the only records in existence. When they played Only in Dreams, it might have been the best moment of my life up to that point. If I had a time machine, that night might be the only night of my teenage years I’d want to relive.

That tour was absolutely insane. Going into it they were notorious for very little setlist changes and playing almost no Pinkerton then all of a sudden for that one they put every album song in a random number generator and let that make the setlist every night. Wild stuff.

Yeah I remember thinking they wouldn’t play anything off Pinkerton and sure enough they played like five songs. It was so cool.

Listened to EWBAITE, White, and PD today.

Honestly? That’s an incredible 3 album stretch for the band this late into their career. You can throw Teal album in there for fun and make it a 4 album stretch.

One of the greatest shows I’ve ever been to was the NYC Pinkerton Memories show. All of Pink, Only in Dreams, Susanne, You Gave Your Love to me Softly, Jamie, TGMTEL, plus a few hits. It was fucking magic.

I remember seeing them in Dallas at the Reunion tower a while back. My girlfriend at the time and I meant to sign up for the fan club but forgot. Turns out that night, for members of the fan club, they played demos for what would eventually turn into the White Album. FOREVER PISSED!

Whats funny is I’m pretty sure it’s the same for me, ha. Not a popular opinion, but I’m not part of the cult following that Pinkerton has. Blue and Green albums are a different story though. Love those albums.
