Kinda feel like the appeal of those self-titled demos rests a lot on the rough demo audio making people nostalgic for older emo stuff, more so than the actual quality of the songs themselves.

The only songs I like from the self-titled & its b-sides are "This is All Now," "Call Me in the Morning," & "Best Places to Be a Mom." Which, I happen to like 'em a lot, but the rest ranges from "yeah, sure, it's fine, whatever" to just bad. Was enough to make me never get around to spending time with the follow up albums, even though I'm sure I'd like some of the songs on 'em.

Depends on what you're looking for. I happen to think all 3 albums were better than NA.

Self-Titled is def a band trying to figure out how to work together again but has some good songs.

Happiness is and Tidal Wave lean a bit more into a rock sound, maybe trying to be a little Springsteen-ish on some songs?

Some of my favorite songs on each are:

    S/T:

Happiness Is (this is hard to pick highlights because I like a TOn of the songs on here):

And I'd also add in this demo from the s/t that should have made the album IMO

Nah I know this fanbase has a ton of "demos sound better than studio recordings" people but I'd like to hear those polished. Not necessarily with that producer though haha. Still sounds like newer TBS, bad audio quality or not.

They really should keep working with Sapone as much as possible IMO. His work on the last couple albums (And his work with that certain other band) showed that he knows how TBS should sound still.

I got you sir haha. I'd say those are all relatively representative of the sound the albums have so if you can't dig any of them I don't imagine the whole albums will give you much more other than a song or two with a hook that you like.

Ok serious question: is it sort of a joke/meme to refer to brand new as "that certain other band/you know who/bn" or is it seriously voldermort territory of not mentioning a band's name?

I think it's just kind of uncomfortable to talk about them/reading their name could possibly be a potential trigger for victims of sexual abuse and such. Obviously everyone knows who's being referred to but sometimes that's not as jolting as seeing the name itself and having all the memories come flooding back for a survivor and etc. I try not to talk about them at all on here anymore but if the situation warrants bringing them up I just try to avoid saying their name personally:shrug:

I think there are folks on this site who do sort of say it in a joking "he who must not be named" manner of speaking, but, i think for those who may truly be triggered by seeing the band's name or name's of the members, i would always spoiler tag it - or, yeah, just say THAT band.

This Is All Now is the best song on the self-titled by far. Incredible song.

Thanks. Although, I do find it odd that most everyone on this site would understand which of the many shitty bands being exposed right now was being referred to as the band when saying "you know who." It seems many of them would be equally triggering. Either way, no need to discuss them here. Happy to move on.

I think a lot of that just has to do with how synonymous that band was with AP and this site for a long time. If there was ever a band that managed to supplant Blink as THE band for this website for a time, it was probably them.

Obviously for newer posters who werent here in the beforetimes it probably doesn't make as much sense haha

It makes me so happy how active this thread is.

I've never checked out the Live at Bamboozle album and this is SO GOOD.

I definitely have the demo-itis for the "Best Places to Be a Mom" demo they released when John/Shaun rejoined the band, I don't think I've ever been more hyped and subsequently let down by an album ever.

Fucking hell.. I hate this administration more than the Bush administration at this point. The blood is on Trump's disgusting hands whether he wants to admit it or not.

Anyways, good move on the retweet TBS!

Nice, back in the day I spent so many hours watching potato-cam quality videos of TBS live. Loved the semi-acoustic set from Colorado with Michelle Nolan, sometime around 2002.
