It was absolutely the names, I get there being a premium model and a more casual priced model. The 4 of those being mentioned in that tweet had me re-read it twice.

I’ve never owned an xbox so that probably partly has something to do with it.

I mean, you could've said the same for the Wii U and look how that went.

 

People aren't going to take the small amount of time to Google (which may make things even more confusing if depending on what they search and the results) because they just want an easy buy. Especially for the holidays.

It's so easy to just go to the shelf, see a PS4 next to a PS5 and get the higher number.

 

I avoid talking to any real people when I’m doing any kind of shopping and not just since the pandemic

 

Funny story here.

The year is 2006, I am a young lad who like many others, found where their parents hid the Christmas parents. Like the animal I was, I raided it. I see a Battlefield game for the Xbox 360 (at the time I had an original Xbox). Overjoyed, I carefully place the items back where I found them and waited for Christmas Day.

Christmas comes, and as the present pile begins dwindling, I begin to come to a realization. None of these boxes look large enough to be a 360. Could it be that my mom bought a game for the wrong system? Surely not, because I never asked for a 360, or even brought it up as an option.

Wait, I never asked for a 360, or even brought it up to her. Uh oh.

As my hope slowly fades away, I get to my last present. I already know what it is, I believe you also know what it is?

I open it, revealing the Xbox 360 logo on the game case. That fleeting moment of triumph I felt the week before is but a faint memory. I thank my mom for all of the gifts and go upstairs to play some Halo 2 with the squad until we have dinner.

It took me like a week to have the heart to tell her I couldn’t play the battlefield game. She returns it, which is good as it turns out, because she used that money for my inhaler when I caught pneumonia in late January. My comeuppance for raiding the present stash, I suppose.

I did get a 360 in October that year though because my Xbox died on the move from Seattle to Florida that summer.

 

Holy shit, I would totally be so afraid to tell my mom it was the wrong game too, I have insane sentimentality with any gift my parents give me.

 

Same. Every time I see a battlefield game I immediately am transported back to that Christmas lol

 

People overestimate the contribution of the name to the WiiU’s flop

Sometime around September or October I think? I got it when Halo 3 came out. All my Xbox friends thought I had died or something cause i hadn’t been on for like 4 months haha

 

^My mom got me the Mad Men box set on DVD a few years ago and it was SO nice and I loved her for it because she knows it’s my favorite show. I felt awful telling her I was going to return it and get the blu-ray set instead.

 

Wii University? What is that, an add on to the Wii?

 

The WiiU’s money/usefulness ratio certainly was higher than that of my degree

 

My girlfriend randomly bought me Bendy and the Ink Machine for Switch because she said she thought I would like it because it looked like Binding of Issac on the cover. I thought it was so damn sweet that I played like 60% of that mediocre game.
