Starting the season off early with some first watches because fuck it, what is this year. Watched The Changeling, Drag Me to Hell, and The Stuff.

The Changeling was really well made, great performances, but I always thought it was supposed to be super scary. Drag Me to Hell was great, so much fun, the perfect tone for what I was looking for. The Stuff rules so hard, one of my favorite things I've seen in a long time.

  4. Is The Stuff streaming anywhere? Been meaning to cross that one off my list for a while

It's on Prime and I think Tubi for free. Do it, dude. It's so good and not in just the so bad it's good way.

  6. I'm working my way through some comic/superhero stuff (because I'm missing those summer blockbuster vibes), but once I'm done with those (namely She-Ra and my re-watch of Teen Titans) and it feels a little more like autumn, I'll be switching over to horror stuff.

Planning on rewatching Ready or Not and Midsommar, mayyyybe rewatching Hereditary (idk, it's 2spoopy4me), and of course finally watching my Haunting of Hill House Director's Cut DVD, presumably just in time for Bly Manor.

I just got the Arrow Blu-ray of The Stuff a couple weeks ago. If anything it’s worth a watch solely for Michael Moriarty’s bizarre accent & performance.

  8. I should probably also rewatch Drag Me to Hell and a few other things I have on DVD. I have trouble balancing rewatching DVDs and sreaming things that are new to me.

Aside from Hereditary and Midsommar, what are some good horror movies available on Amazon Prime?

I'm looking into trying the watch party feature through Twitch on Friday and it only works with Prime. Also, ideally looking for movies that are under two hours for now.

Thank you! I’m wondering if Twitch will let you connect to other services soon (or of there’s a way to do it and I just need to figure it out). But these lists should be plenty for me to choose from for now.

Seeing as I have the day off and my partner is working, it’s a great day to watch classic universal monster movies I’ve never watched before. That’s the one good thing about the Peacock app so far.

Actually I went with Crawl due to it storming/flooding here. The perfect vibes for today and the right amount of anxious feeling for me.

Started Hooptober 7 yesterday to get the jump. We decided to watch Demons as our "1 horror movie that features a movie theatre". Was gonna go with Scream 2 for that but he dedicated one whole section to sequels this year (7!) so we threw Scream 2 in there instead. Demons is such a blast every time for so many reasons.

Been really sad thinking about how I likely will not attend any Halloween attractions or go to Salem this year. I haven’t gotten sick, and really can’t justify taking the risk of being crammed in haunted houses or a busy area like that. Idk if anyone here visits Salem during Halloween season but it’s shoulder to shoulder most places during October. Alas, I will have to settle for movie marathons and pumpkin carving.

It's certainly not ideal but there is something comforting (to me, at least) about the idea of hunkering down throughout the season and watching Halloween movies on repeat. Also, setting up virtual watch parties could be fun. I'm scared to think about how hard it will be to social distance/implement safe strategies for haunted attractions. I mean, I'm sure it can be done but will it be done? Our local theater always plays some good movies during October so I'm hoping to go out for some of those potentially.

Pennhurst Asylum in PA (my all time favorite and an annual one for me) already emailed me saying they’ll be open. Headless Horseman here in NY along with a few others in the upstate region have also announced online they plan to be running.

I can’t imagine any other way of it working other than them just requiring a mask, sanitizer stations, making lines extensively long/segregated by parties, and only sending people through with their respective company. That probably means painfully long wait times and reservation only attendance. Obviously necessary, but still not ideal. The staff/actors will have to wear masks as well. I think it’s just an all around skip for me this year sadly for the first time ever since being an adult. Hopefully a real, working vaccine will be on the market by next season.

Watched It Comes at Night last night with my fiancee. Super timely stuff, holy shit.

The first 90% of it is incredible, was particularly captivated by the focus on the family's emotional torment rather than external scares. It reminded me a lot of Hereditary in that way, digs under your skin. The score is also fucking awesome. Wish I could find it on streaming- reminded me of fourth world ambient electronic shit (the earlier sequence when the two families build their own little community is thrilling), and would love to listen to it while working. The ending was very dissatisfying though- it's hard for me to feel enthralled by a film when the penultimate sequence centers around a toddler's violent murder. We got the point and purpose of it all, that fear corrupts, but neither me nor my fiancee felt it justified and really took us out of the movie.
