I know it is hard with the pandemic going on, but I would really love to form a small board game group. Have you guys had any luck with forming one?

I don't have a ton of friends or family near me right now, so I haven't had much luck myself, and I'm interested in exploring online options if those seem viable. I know some of my friends back home have gotten a little Gloomhaven group together and it's been good, mostly just a couple of roommates and close friends getting together, and they said it's been better than ever because it's a great outlet during the pandemic. I think game groups are perfect in this social climate if you can get one together.

I have a group of 4 that meets twice a month to play. Since the pandemic we've had to transfer to playing on tabletopia and boardgamearena but i'm looking forward to at some point being able to play in-person games again. I kind of lucked out with my group. Found out my friend at work was big into board games and he had a friend, then that friend had a friend, and boom our 4 was set.

jealous of you guys. I moved to philly a year ago, then the pandemic hit. So I haven’t been able to make friends. Maybe once I get into med school.

Sad to say my 1.5 years of working at a boardgame store comes to a close this weekend, so you better believe I'm using the hell out of my discount before then. Gonna pick up a Root expansion today!

We’ve continued to play with a few friends throughout the pandemic.
@Mort Michaels if you live in Philly, maybe check the PaxUnplugged Facebook group. I bet there’s some philly gamers there that might be up to game.

September 20th is the moving day. We're giving ourselves a few weeks to get our ducks in row before we go.

I had like $280 store credit that I had to use before my last day. It took me almost two hours to use it all because I also had a 20% employee discount, but I managed to do it. Here's me with all my friends, just out of frame.

    Nice. Great haul.
Root has become a favorite of mine over the last year, so it’s great to see you go all in on that stuff.

I still have yet to play it with anyone haha. I'm hoping to get a rep in before I move next week. I'll probably pick up the Riverfolk expansion soon

I think one of the expansions has a solo mode. There’s also a new app version you could try out to get the rules under your belt.

I’ve played one faction from each of the new expansions and two from the base game. I prefer the birds the best even out of the expansions.

The Riverfolk one has the mechanical cats, and the clockwork expansion has all mechanical factions for solo play so I might get those.

I like the play style of the birds too. The way they build up a decree and then collapse and start over calls for a lot of strategy and planning.

I've played Root a couple times. Played as the Woodland Alliance once and the birds the other time. I was not very good at either faction haha.

The Alliance seem pretty tricky. They really rely on getting cards from other players to add to their support deck. Otherwise, they'll be starved for actions.

A well timed revolt feels awesome tho

A buddy of mine is always the Alliance. He WRECKS with them. He always beats me.

They start out so slow and unassuming and then murder everything in a clearing out of nowhere! It's hard to deal with them since you have to give them a card every time you enter their territory, and their higher roll when defending in battle is op
