I’d want to support this film mainly for some of the under-represented actors that are finally getting a spotlight in a major film.

I’m part of a Chinese/Taiwanese church community in my city, so we’re moderately excited to get together and watch this.

We tested a 12ft screen and projector last night so that 15 - 20 of us can social distance while watching it.

This felt mostly frustrating. I don't know what about it just made it feel tepid. I enjoyed the bright colors and integration of the music.

Something about killing people in a pg-13 movie always comes off weird to me.

I enjoyed this. There are 3 or 4 goofy moments and some pacing issues during the battles but everything else is good. The cast carries the film and they do more than enough. I’ll watch it a second time tomorrow to see if I feel the same.

Thought this was a perfect blend of the original film and a modern facelift of new ideas. Donnie Yen’s always unbelievably amazing to watch doing his own swordplay and martial arts. I did miss Mushu but it didn’t hurt the plot.

And there isn’t a single white person in the movie which was even better. Blows Aladdin out of the water.

Agree with the few goofy moments comment but this was great otherwise. Visually gorgeous movie

I thought it looked great but was pretty boring and lifeless compared to the original which is how I've felt about most of these remakes.

This one just completely missed the mark in so many ways. Every single scene made me realize I would so much rather be watching the original.

It’s hard for me to compare this to the animated film. They both have extremely different tones and I didn’t experience anything from this film that I experienced while watching the animated film. That’s not a complaint, it’s just what it is. They’re on two different levels.

To me, this is just a other reimagining of the story with some elements taken from the animated version. For example, this film puts greater focus on Mulan’s relationship with her father. I’m grateful for it because the scenes between them are some of my favorites of the entire film.

I also like that there was a heavy emphasis on family dynamics during that time period, and how heavy the expectations of women to fall in line and serve the purposes of a marriage were. Extremely grateful they didn’t make her have a love story at the end. I was nervous at the bridge scene they were about to shoehorn it in.

I appreciate that they never called them the Huns.

Reading up on the historical bits of everything from this and the original is a hoot. I didn't realize how many different time periods the original borrowed from. It was good to see that this version didn't feel all over the place in that regard.

For whatever reason I’ve been able to separate the originals from the remakes pretty consistently. I’ll still go back and rewatch the original Mulan and probably not so much this one but they’re just different to me. I still thought this was good though.

  19. This was bad.

I'll preface and say the original is my favorite Disney animated movie.

This didn't have the magic or connection that the original had. The secondary characters were irrelevant. The movie looked horrible imo. Why did every thing have to look like it was filmed in front of a green screen. Maybe it was but all of these Disney remakes look so fake. The chi stuff was unnecessary. Acting was subpar overall. I hate slow motion action scenes so that stuff bothered me.

Don't regret spending the 30 bucks though. Would do the same for tenet or no time to die easily.

A lot of it was filmed on location in New Zealand. Most of the Imperial City scenes were filmed in studio.

It truly did look terrible. Way too many quick cuts, the action was a little too Crouching Tiger for me, and some scenes were just so saturated that it looked like it was a scene from 300.

It was okay. The editing just seemed off. It was way too fast and you could tell they trimmed alot of the shots to keep the movie under 2 hours.

All the visuals in the trailers & clips I’ve seen look really sharp to me, & most of the reactions I’ve seen have also spoken well of that side (even if they didn’t like the whole film). Interesting to see a couple people here feel the opposite. Especially seeing “saturated” as a criticism, when the strong reds are a highlight in what I’ve seen.

Not that I expect this to look like an art film or anything, lol, but I’m expecting it to have a stronger aesthetic than most Disney blockbusters.

The action scenes were so jarring / seemed like it was trying to imitate “Upgrade” with the tilty camera trick...didn’t really fit in with the rest of it...whole movie felt pretty awkward.
