For me....

Mark lead vocals = Mark and Tom shared vocals, then Tom lead vocals

Mark lead vocals = Mark and Matt = Matt lead vocals

All these guys have good songs and the variety and combinations on the albums keep them interesting.

 

For sure, this. Except Mark basically wasn’t even on Neighborhoods so I’m not sure if that even counts.

I think Mutt or Dysentery Gary are the standouts from Tom on Enema.

 

Dysentery is honestly my favorite Tom song on there

 

GATC is probably my favorite song off Enema, but after that I'd rank Dysentery, Dumpweed, and Anthem (maybe Aliens) before I rank another Mark song (Adam's song) . Again, I think Enema is pretty close to balanced.

I think the only Mark song on TOYPAJ that I actually really like is Online Songs. Every Time I Look for You's pretty good, I guess. There would be at least five Tom songs that I would select off that album before I rank Online Songs though: Anthem II, Reckless Abandon, Give Me One Good Reason, Lonely Guy. This album's got some mediocre songs from both too though.

S/T is obviously Tom's sister masterpiece to Box Car Racer. Those two albums are peak Tom and he basically fell off a cliff after this unfortunately.

 

I can honestly say I hate Give Me One Good Reason.

I feel the same way about "shut up." TOYPAJ is kind of a weird but brilliant album

Prob my top 5. And one of those albums if you replaced the three weakest album tracks with the non-joke bonus songs: MASSIVE improvement.

Also I've learned over the years that I'm in the minority on this, but I hate Reckless Abandon.

 

I don’t hate it but I think it’s a bit overrated. I’d take songs like Roller Coaster and Every Time... every time.

 

Also think that Give Me and Reckless are mediocre songs at the very best

 

I can still listen to The Rock Show on repeat and never get tired of it

 

I loved TOYPAJ in high school but I feel too old to listen to songs like give me one good reason, reckless abandon and shut up these days. And the band was still a few years older than me when they recorded it haha

 

Mark definitely won the "write a radio hit in fifteen minutes" contest or however long he said they spent on that and First Date haha

 

Bonus tracks give Tom the edge on TOYPAJ for me

 

Yeah the TOYPAJ bonus tracks are among the best from that era

 

Can't recall if I've said it here already or not, but I've always favored mostly Tom songs, except for Dammit, Adams Song, What's My Age Again, Party Song, ...and now Fighting the Gravity and like Josie and Apple Shampoo and either TV or Time (which is Mark's? Tv?)...

So, I mean there are some great ones there, but for every great Mark song, there are 2 or 3 great songs, IMO, by Tom.

Also, I'm watching Can't Hardly Wait right now, and Jennifer Love Hewitt just said, "Give me one good reason". ;)

And yes, the bonus TOYPAJ songs are some of the best! And, even though I'm a girl, I find this line really funny,
"Guys hate to fight, girls think it's therapy."
