Someone get Leon Edwards a fight!

    But yeah, Jorge/Nate makes sense.

Yeah why has Leon been sidelined for like a year? I know COVID played a part, but he’s missed out on fighting all the guys in the top five recently.

Edwards has talked a lot of shit in recent times. He is on a good streak, but outside of a decision win over a post-prime RDA I don’t see much reason to be hyped on him. Feel like that small scuffle with Masvidal garnered him more hype than is realistically deserved right now. Usman dominated him, and I don’t see Edwards having an easy time with Burns, Thompson, Chiesa or even Covington.

That feels a little unfair to Edwards, he hasn't lost since Usman. The Vicente Luque fight is a very solid win, Cerrone/Gunnar/RDA were all varying degrees of good.

But I do agree he needs one really solid win against a name to justify the hype. Should have been Masvidal, and then the Woodley fight was wiped out letting Burns get in there. I'd favor him against Thompson and probably Chiesa.

Chiesa impresses me more and more. I think he could be a real problem for any of the top 5.

Nelson fight was a close split decision, not a real solid win and if Nelson gave him problems, so would any of the above mentioned guys. Also don’t think a super long layoff like this helps anyone.

  7. Burns posted a video of Michael Chandler with USADA! Let’s go

I'm really looking forward to that fight, glad it only got pushed back month or so. That 10/6 card is gonna be fun with Randamie/Pena, Arvloski/Boser, Condit/McGee, Oliveira/Dariush also rumored.

I assume Waterson/Hill will headline 9/12 card now. Next two weeks have very skippable cards, which I'm not complaining about. Too many cards now days and Covington/Woodley, 253 and Holm/Aldana are gonna be great.

I sometimes like having the quantity though. It's nice putting on a card in the background while I do other things and just check in every now and then to see if I'm missing anything cool. haha.

    nah.

i do the same when the card doesn'it interest me much, sometimes these cards end up being really good.

I tend to agree most of the time, but with NBA/NHL Playoffs and College football at the same time I tend to skip cards like the next two due to other options. I get why we have so many cards though. Good thing is I can always go back and watch with ESPN+ later in the week.

That is true, I can definitely see that. This sounds kinda bad, but I honestly like having some of those non-important cards as a fallback plan for Saturday nights in case I don't have anything better to do. haha. Sometimes I don't watch at all, but then other times I'll find myself bummed out when it's Saturday and there are no fights on.

I kinda wish MMA could break that stigma in that people don’t feel interested in watching the sport unless it’s big names, or feel like it’s over saturated. I love watching preliminary cards, JJ comps, and smaller promotions outside of bare knuckle. Even the contender series. It’s legitimized as a sport now and I also find that lesser known fighters with nothing to lose compete much stronger than some who formulated means of strategy that keep them safe once they’re in the second half of their career or fighting top guys. Given, the only other sports I follow are baseball and football, so MMA is top form of entertainment for me and that may not be the case for others.

Yeah the only thing I don't like about MMA is a lot of casual fans. They constantly bitch about card quality and want bigger names when that isn't possible half of the time. Also half of the time the prelims are better than the main card. The next few months we are spoiled with great fights and nobody has the right to complain.

Yeah, typically the lesser known guys trying to make a statement will fight a little harder or put themselves in harm's way in order to get a finish. In other cases, the fights earlier on in the cards are more likely to have a mismatch so you have a better chance of seeing a beat down or crazy finish. haha.

But, on the other hand, people just like to be invested. They like drama and they like stakes, so that's easier to achieve whenever there are well known fighters involved or a significant story/rivalry at play. So I can see it from both sides.

Cody Garbrandt tested positive for Corona, but it looks like it’s far enough out from the fight that they’ll let him recover and compete.

  23. That’s a great test for him. A top 10 ranked guy. Definitely a gatekeeper.
Dangerous enough off his back to test his abilities.

I don't know if my brain can handle the technicality of that fight
