havent had much import beer besides like, Guinness

Maybe some of you beer industry people can answer this for me. Why can I not get the original schofferhofer hefe in stores anywhere but I can get their grapefruit version? Like what's the rationale for not distributing the original version of your beer?

When you all take beer to the post office to mail do you just lie about what's in the box

 

Essentially. I just say it’s a birthday present or something. They’re not going to grill you about it or open up your box if it’s packaged

 

Some people add stuff to the box to mask the sound of liquid splashing around like beans or a box of mac and cheese. I’ve never cared to do.

 

I’ve said a bunch of lies when shipping beers mostly I go with “homemade bbq sauce” and if it sloshes around I tell em they’re vinegar based so they are more liquid than other sauces. Have also used snow globes (I panicked on this one) and maple syrup as things I was shipping. I had one person try to open the box before because it sloshed around so I just said let me run home and pack it better (she didn’t know it was beer) so I went home didn’t do anything and went back the next day and shipped it through another employee.

 

I’m not sure. My presumption is the grapefruit one sells better? I’d have to look to see if we get the traditional hefe in some stores near me cause I can’t remember.

 

The grapefruit one is basically just a radler, right?

Yeah, I've shipped using the medium flat rate boxes (I think) and I just put 3-4 beers in them and wrap them paper or bubbles and then use the kiosk at the post office so I don't even have to talk to the person. Just hand it over and say it's ready to go. easy peasy.

I'm up for an exchange as well. Not sure if we should start a group chat or something for it. Keep all the people, logistics of it in one place?

 

I'd be down for a beer share. Get some good beers for pints at play

 

yeah i watch youtube beer reviews and their viewers send them beer boxes all the time so i figured it was pretty easily doable, most of them just wrap them up in bubble wrap so they arent sloshing around and wont break open.

 

My guide is go to local Uhaul buy wine shipper.

perfect for bottles if you are shipping cans you can hollow out a bit and double stack em

Picked up what I believe is my first fruited Oxbow beer, Albarrique. Also got a Fonta Flora wild ale that I’m pretty excited about.

 

Fonta is a really cool spot.

 

I’m at a “wedding” tonight (everyone tested/masks on/social distanced/like 15 people here) and the groom managed to snag some Other Half cans and they are incredible. I’ve had the Lime Lager and the Forever Diamonds IPA and they both rule.
