Conor would always play at least a couple BE deep cuts at solo shows too so I know we would've gotten some real rare gems. Also, it was "From a Balance Beam" not "Nothing Gets Crossed Out" hadn't had my coffee yet when I posted that earlier haha.

 

I've ran this album through front to back at least six times today while at work.

 

Pan & Broom pulls me in every time. It's a lil hidden gem snuck in the middle there. So good.

 

wife is fully on board with this now and i love it.

 

Just picked up the my preorder from the record store. I forgot it came with a 7"

 

just got my shipment from newbury yaayyyyy

 

what's the song on the 7" sound like? could it fit in with the rest of the album or does it belong as a b-side?

 

it's a cover of a Vic Chestnutt song I believe so it probably wouldn't fit on the album

 

I listened to it before I listened to the album and wasn't that into it. I should throw it back on the turntable and reassess.

Love how much of the sound from People's Key is on this. The intro guitar in Dance & Sing is that clean/dirty sound and is a perfect transition between albums as it takes us from TPK era to the more "traditional" grander sound of BE on the rest of this album. Mariana Trench has that cool synth atmosphere going on throughout it. And One & Done is basically a second cousin to Approximate Sunlight.

 

After a few listens, I was moved by this record. I have seen comments about how the emotion seemed forced or catering to form a "Bright Eyes Sounding record" but honestly...this does not feel so wholly removed from his solo work nor his Bright Eyes records. It seems like a nice mix of both for this stage of his career.

 

imo if they were going to force a "Bright Eyes Sounding record" it wouldn't sound at all like this, which clearly follows the path started by arguably their two least beloved albums lol

Isn't it just transparent red? I told myself I was only going to buy the dead oceans variant and secretly store variant but had to pick up the TTL and Newbury ones after hearing the record.
