I'm sorry but after the confusion that was created by Halloween (2018) being the third film from the same franchise with the same name, they can't call this remake The Thing. It will have to be The Thingy or The Thang.

agreed. The nihilism and excessive violence of 28 weeks is right up my alley. Not really a fan of the first one.

Started up 1BR on Netflix last night. Ended up falling asleep, but liked what I saw to start. Its weird how the user reviews were trash.

UK store HMV are bringing out a new collection of steelbooks that have Japanese Artwork for certain films like Duel and Jaws but this The Thing one looks particularly great.

I was down for it, but in retrospect where else were they gonna go with the story? I'd imagine they'd of tried to shoehorn Cillian Murphy's character back in there somehow given his stardom after the first one.

Yea, I'm not too sure. I'd imagine they'd take it to a global scale....but then it'd just turn into another World War Z.

I don't know why I liked the CGI in World War Z. I did a recent re-watch and thought it looked super muddy. Now i've decided I don't really like the movie altogether.

I really liked the initial outbreak in Philly up until the high rise apartment scene...then it just fell off for me.

Considering it's a sequel to a Danny Boyle film, it really holds its own.

Going to try to watch Random Acts of Violence tonight...not really sure what to expect.

  19. Expect style over substance and some truly disturbing moments. I thought it was solid, even if I didn't love it.

    Regular

    Canada and UK horror folks!

Is anyone participating in either Fright Fest or Fantasia film festivals this year? It's awesome that they're doing it virtually but I'm so bummed they're geo-fenced off from anyone outside the UK or Canada. I thought I was gonna be able to bypass it with my VPN but of course the final step was entering credit card info where your card must be from UK/Canada

So here I am trying to brainstorm a way to be able to check out some of these screenings (particularly the short film sections from both festivals).

Any ideas? I think I might be shit out of luck

(and no this is not me asking for your credit card information lol)

So yeah, the film doesn't really bring anything new to the zombie genre; it's pretty standard fare. And they seemed to have a total budget of $5 for practical effects, so instead went with CGI for almost everything, and even then it's atrociously bad, hahaha. It's like they wanted to incorporate some anime style/action into the CGI scenes.

Will say though, getting a baddie car to launch into the air off a giant pile of zombies is pretty cool
