I wonder if Daniel Romano is ever gonna start playing country again. I just can't get into anything he's doing lately for some reason.

Same here, he has lost me. Still love his country albums though.

Mosey and Modern Pressure had some songs I liked, but I couldn't get into Finally Free or Ancient Shapes at all. Just saw his new single pop up on my Spotify radar and it's just making me miss his country era. I get that what he's doing now is probably more in line with what he's always wanted to do, but imo his country records are where his strength as a singer/songwriter really shine and where he plays to his strengths.

Given how much stuff he's put out since moving away from the genre I'm not holding my breath for a return to form anytime soon.

I'm making my way through the stuff that's been recommended in here over the past few months. So far I've checked out American Aquarium, Caitlyn Smith, Ingrid Andress, and Ashley McBryde. All pretty solid

    Fuck, I did a triple-take reading that.

  11. I'm actually extremely upset by this. JTE's music meant a ton to me and as someone who has struggled with a lot of the same things he struggled with in his life (read between the lines) I always hoped that he'd see the fight through to the other side, for good. Heartbroken for his dad, his family, and everyone who knew him. An irreplaceable loss.

Sometimes I dream that I have found a place
Where I won't feel so all alone
    Am I that lonely tonight?
    I don't know

I read that Instagram post a good five times when I saw it earlier to make sure I wasn't imagining things or reading it wrong. Feeling gutted right now. For him, for his family, for Steve, for the rest of the fans - I just can't believe this is real. He's been one of my favorite songwriters and singers for a long time now and it's heartbreaking to know he's gone.

I'm glad I got to see him live a couple years back. In Indianapolis, the city where he had his infamous incident, and seeing him on stage he seemed happy, healthy, and acknowledged his past with the city in an honest, humble way that hinted he was on the right path. This is so sad.

  14. Never saw him live, and I think I even had a ticket for a show in Louisville once a few years ago but had something come up. Regret that immensely now.

  15. That video of him playing HRB with Isbell on Letterman is maybe the thing I've watched the most on YouTube though

Yeah this one is tough. His run of The Good Life, Midnight at the Movies, and Harlem River Blues is untouchable. Glad I got a chance to see him live a handful of times, such a unique artist And performer. RIP.

So damn sad. I used to spend entire evenings watching his performances on YouTube... for years..

He opened so many doors for me musically.. RIP JTE

  22. It's unreal to me that he has the same number of fingers on each hand that I do but manages to make all those sounds come out of a guitar. I've never understood it and I've been picking around on guitars since I was six or so

I remember reading comments on one of his videos where some guy was saying “it’s impossible to make those noises on a guitar with only one person.. there is somebody standing backstage playing with him” or some dumb shit like that..

Can hardly blame the guy though... especially when something sounds THIS good

This is so awful. I saw him at a festival a few years ago and he sounded great. I only ever casually listened to him and meant to check out more

I’ve been retelling that little “there’s only 2 kinds of music” anecdote from the beginning of that video above for YEARS now. Fuck.. this sucks
