  2. do i have to paste a jazz guitar solo or a hendrix solo here to prove you wrong or is this post sufficient

Philly Soul is probably the best genre of music and those artist/songwriters should be as revered as The Beatles

That's both the best compliment and the saddest realization I'm sorry Chris!

For what it's worth I really really like Sgt Pepper and a good bit of White

    Jazz gets a pass

I resent Hendrix for launching a thousand boring guitar solos

A tastefully done solo can add a lot to a song.

    This is silly.

A guitar solo, when done right, says something a lyric can't.

It's so hard for me to talk about lyrics when discussing artists just cause it's something so personal and dependent on life experiences. I guess you can talk about the actual writing ability but when people are like "How can you not ugly cry at these lyrics??" it's like idk cause I can't relate to them personally? When people post in the lyrics thread I don't relate to like 99% of them and am completely indifferent to them, but it obviously means the world to the person posting them. I feel like it's one of those things that will always just be agree to disagree.

Just thoughts after reading someone post a lyrics sample, and then also the talk about taking it personally if someone is super harsh about an artist you love. idk I was at work all day and I'm too lazy to quote anything lol

on the flip side I sometimes have really emotional reactions to like Miley Cyrus or Katy Perry or Britney etc lyrics and I feel like if I say that people will think I'm being ironic but I'm serious haha

actually i love the stripped down, isolated feel of Bon Iver's music, i just never seem to connect to it.

imo Illustrated Manual does it better than Bon Iver and I'd even say better than Carrie and Lowell (not to discount that album)

It makes me sad that people act like that! I relate to lyrics from all those artists you mentioned and have listened to them when I'm at low points because I relate to them so much. Like when I was going through a hard time Britney's Stronger, Lonely, and Dramatic helped me immensely. Katy's song Lost helps me anytime I feel like I have no idea where my life is going, Miley's albums helped me through a hard time as well. People who act like all pop lyrics are trash... idk just bums me out.
