Also I would add I find it uncomfortable to tell a woman who was a survivor of seemingly abusive relationship how to behave in these scenarios.

 

Generally I agree because I know what you meant in this context, but I feel compelled to point out that as a general rule (again, not specific to this exact instance) being a survivor does not make someone any less accountable for enabling the abuse (or perpetrating it) of someone else.

That said, I absolutely don't think anyone owes anyone a statement because they covered a song and there's a difference between actively defending an alleged abuser/being an apologist and simply having associated with one. Even abusers need their community and a support system if they truly desire to change, make restitution and better themselves. Problem is, support and apologism/gaslighting victims further are NOT the same thing.

My brain worms just took me on a bit of tangent here so I appreciate everyone bearing with me in advance.
