Give him time with the playbook and the personnel. He looked very good for us the last two years.

    ?

He has consistently made teams with mediocre-to-porous rosters overachieve?

Do you remember when that dog shit Titans team when 13-3?

How about going 7-9 in the NFC West in 2013 when the Hawks were 13-3, the Niners were 12-4, and the Cardinals were 10-6? Being the only team to beat both the Cardinals and Seahawks last year? Being the only team to beat both the Seahawks and Niners in 2012?

And doing all of that with no quarterback, no receivers, an average running game pre-2015, and a porous offensive line? Take a look at their roster in those seasons-- it's frankly astonishing they won any games at all.

If win/loss is your lone litmus test for a coach's performance, I have a Mike McCarthy to sell you.

    (Very Rough) Houston Texans Analysis:

Nothing neuters the idea of a fast paced Houston offense quite like not having either starting OTs playing. With Duane Brown and Derek Newton out, the offensive line looked weak in the passing game, and the center had lots of issues of his own. Brock Osweiler played alright, showing his knowledge of the playbook and ability to read the defense, but seems afraid to take too many chances. This may be a good thing at some point, but there were a lot of missed opportunities, specifically with Deandre Hopkins spending a lot of time with one-on-one coverage. When Tom Savage came in, he threw lots of contested balls to Jaelen Strong, showing our receivers are willing to go up for the ball in contests and that we don't need to take the short safe throw every time. Osweiler needs to show more fearlessness and willingness to make plays. Hopkins was targeted once and dropped the ball. Jaelen Strong and Braxton Miller were the benefactors of the passing attack, while Will Fuller didn't seem adjusted to the NFL quite yet (lots of trouble getting open, making contested catches, a near lethal punt return where he set himself up to get hit extremely hard). Lamar Miller was good on the ground, making the most of what he could with our guards (who played well on the offensive line) and our tight ends, who were quiet but decent in run blocking. Kenny Hilliard also took a surprising step forward, showing potential to be the #2 running back in Houston.

The defense got run over. The defensive line (missing JJ Watt) performed well, with Christian Covington and Vince Wilfork creating a key play that resulted in the first 7 points, but our linebackers (without Clowney or Cushing) had a lot of trouble stopping the run. The defense allowed over 300 yards in the first half, mainly because of poor tackling from linebackers. Granted, our 3 missing defensive players are a large factor in stopping the run, but the rest of the defense needs to step it up as well. Aside from John Simon's fumble recovery TD, the linebackers left much to be desired. Johnathan Joseph looks the same as always, and Kevin Johnson is showing great things at the CB2 position. The 49ers exploited our pass defense primarily with tight ends attacking our weakness at linebacker, or by passing on Kareem Jackson, who did not seem like his former self. He and Andre Hal both seemed to underperform, with Quintin Demps maintaining his passable but unspectacular play. We prevented a lot of red zone touchdown opportunities, but there's still room to improve. (Also, for some reason Crennel wasn't there at all? Go figure.)

We need need need need NEED (one more for emphasis: need) better special teams play. Our kick and punt returns were mediocre and felt very fortunate to be uncostly, with one dropped punt recovered by Houston and the aforementioned Will Fuller hit. We need our gunners to improve as well. Lechler punted well, our new rookie kicker wasn't too bad and I'm wondering if he could replace Novak on the roster (I hope so).

Despite coming away with the win, if we play like this in the regular season we won't live up to anything anyone's said, whether 10-6 or 6-10.

New & Good: Lamar Miller, Braxton Miller
New & Subpar: Will Fuller, Nick Martin
New & Average: Brock Osweiler, DJ Reader
Old & Better: Jaelen Strong, Kenny Hilliard, Christian Covington
Old & Worse: Kareem Jackson, Andre Hal, Akeem Hunt

I mean, when you're as average as he is for as long as he has been, yea that's kind of what you are

I don't care what he did in Tennessee 15 years ago

Every other coach would have been fired from that job years ago. Owners want wins.

    The rivalry is back on

List is long and not easy to copy/paste, but they ranked Tolzien/the Colts' backup QB situation ahead of only Cassel, Dak, and Boykin/whatever else Seattle does.

Which is funny because all three of those QBs are better than Tolzein. And Dak and Boykin has backed that up so far in the pre-season.

I'll do one of these just before week 1.

I need more info on the second team and on Kelvin Beachum and Brandon Linder.

Love the idea of facing a QB who might be afraid to hit Hopkins deep. Because that made the Texans scary at times last year.

Over the past two preseasons, he had a 5:1 TD:INT ratio and a passer rating over 100, so.....

  12. I can't believe Adele was offered the SB half-time show. Thank god she declined it. We can't have the entire stadium asleep when the second half kicks off.

I like adele more than Coldplay but I didn't think Coldplay was a good choice either at the time. I long for the days when they pick someone exciting that people on these boards can actually give a thumbs up to.

Is there a list of other possible SB halftime candidates?

By that measure, Chase Daniel is a football god. But no team is handing him a big contract off his pre-season wo.....[sorry Eagles fans]

edit: And god, that reminds me that that pre-season in Washington was Chase Daniel v Colt Brennan, and how insanely hyped Colt Brennan was, while never taking a regular season snap in his career

I feel like a Foo Fighters halftime show is inevitable eventually. Why not this year for it?

    Rihanna also seems very possible.

Cause they refuse to do straight up rock for awhile now, usually it's like a band cameo. It would take unusual circumstances of everyone turning them down for it to be them. Rihanna is still popular? I feel like she hasn't done anything for a year.

ANTI (her new album) has been huge. Between that and her collabs with Drake and Calvin Harris, she's been probably the biggest artist this year not named Bey or Drake.
