I think we forget how talented those bengals teams were during daltons tenure. They had a lot of seemingly good drafts, they were building their teams like the ravens but Dalton always seemed to screw it up and underperform in big games. Burrow is gonna have a chance to be real good if their ol stops ever stops being swiss cheese.

And the year he was really good, he got hurt and then the team imploded in the wild card round versus the Steelers, and that was basically the high water mark for the franchise. 3 straight losing seasons and Marvin Lewis being fired later...

Yea, thought I included that, weird. I remember mccarron stinking it up in that playoff game. It dropped mccarron stock so low that he got traded for a 3rd (after the fax accident) the following season.

Remember when it seemed like Marvin Lewis wasn’t going to be extended and probably retire? Three months later, out of nowhere they announce they’re bringing him back. It’s amazing how much they screwed that run up with all the talent they had.

    The rivalry is back on

He had one, maybe two, top 10 individual seasons for a QB (for that year, not forever), but there was never a point where he had the sustained track record or the single outstanding season to put him as a top 10 QB in the league

So, its really funny because he was getting MVP talk in 2015 (primarily cause the Bengals started off 8-0 and were scoring a bunch), but if you actually look at his per game numbers, nothing he was doing was top 10 aside from maybe TD/INT ratio.

But he was getting that talk during a time when Cam was putting up 35TD/10INT, nearly 4000yds passing, and 600+yds rushing with 10TDs while leading a 15-1 team.

And then the following year Derek Carr got MVP hype haha

Ah, Derek Carr. The ideal quarterback if your goal is to lose games and punt on 4th and short.

Find a way to go to a bubble (or bubbles) or cancel the season.

Partner with the NFL and turn it into a developmental league

The NFL has a free developmental league already.

Im genuinely trying to imagine a stupider decision than paying money for the XFL. First off, they arent gonna be playing in 2021, and the only real value the name has is an association with professional wrestling and a major Trump donor...both of which are toxic associations now and only going to get worse in 2021 and beyond.

Nobody has any real attachment to the league. Instead, start up a new property with the $15mil in capital you have.

I think he gets the logos, merchandising deals, rental contracts, etc. It's a lot of shortcuts for him, very well may be worth the $15MM

Yeah, for $15 million bucks him and his group get to skip the first like 40 steps of starting a league. And I think people genuinely enjoyed xfl 2.0 and feel it would have done okay had it not been for a pandemic so i think keeping the brand actually keeps a sympathetic ear with football fans.

I sort of get it from that perspective, but, there is a TON of baggage in the XFL right now including its debts, its defaulting on TV deals, etc. Maybe having The Rock cleans a lot of that up for the networks...but this is where it stood a week ago

FOX, per Kaplan, is negotiating with Alpha Entertainment, current owner of the XFL, regarding the FOX deal. ABC/ESPN are trying to get out via the court system.

The argument advanced by the Disney-owned entitles arises from the notion that the company chose to do business Vince McMahon, not whoever buys the XFL from McMahon.

Yeah this isn't going to hold up in court though.

Edit: I mean it COULD, but Sprint isn't going to let me out of my contract because they merged with TMobile and I agreed to do business with Sprint.

Also, there are no players under contract, no coaching agreements, no GMs, etc. You're buying something that took 2yrs and $200mil to make happen, so thats sort of good...but the ground work needed to re-form teams for their theoretical February tournament is a functional impossibility while the NFL is trying to pull of a season. Especially since they will be churning more players as COVID tests come in, etc
