Listen, I'm not here to troll. Hopefully the good folks of Chorus know that by now. Every comment you make is clearly meant to antagonize. We get it, you don't like Dom.

Anyway, without going into the semantics of ice cream passing, I find it ridiculous that it's so heavily scrutinized. From what I understand, police officers either need to join the BLM movement or be shot dead. I don't know.

Police said the 23-year-old man was armed with a handgun. Mayor Tom Barrett said the officer ordered the suspect to drop the weapon, but he refused. The officer then shot the suspect twice, Barrett said, adding that the officer was wearing a body camera.

    yep this was clear racism

It is scrutinized because it is clearly an effort to counter the images we have seen of police officers shooting unarmed black men. These sorts of deeds are meaningless when, as the DOJ report on the Baltimore City Police Department showed, racism, misogyny, and violence are part and parcel of policing.

What are your thoughts when it's an officer as an individual performing a good deed, rather than a deed on behalf of the organization?

You can't separate cops from the institution they represent.

I disagree, but we've been down this road before.

I see the correlation, but I don't find them to be as comparable as you probably do. In the past we've discussed the notion that police officers may or may not be inherently bad or racist. I myself finished the academy before realizing how fucked up the organization is as a whole and switching my career to social work. I'm sure it's an inner battle that many officers deal with daily, but obligations prevent them from switching their careers overnight. Anyway, this was a directionless post out of frustration. Do your thing.

The point is not to say that American cops are the same as al Qaeda, but that people shouldn't be fooled by images of kindness or even solidarity. It's a distraction, nothing more.

I don't record when I work with the homeless, mentally ill, sexual assault victims, etc. That's what I have a problem with as far as the recording goes. PR is all it is.

You must think white people can be victims of racism.

How about this: could this situation have been solved without anyone dying? Explain yes or no.

Just to clarify, I was referring to the officers who do it off camera. The ones who remain anonymous after the beneficiary posts a story or goes to the press. On an individual level I think it can be sincere.

The intention doesn't matter, they're entrenched within a system that thrives on racial subjugation and maintenance of that. He might donate to charity but then be instructed to patrol black neighborhoods and stop and frisk people to meet a quota. See the issue?

Take the officer who was called because some black kids were playing ball and instead of writing them up he shot some hoops with them. The kids posted the video, it wasn't his idea. I love that guy. But that act can't counter the system itself and as citizens we can't fall into a false sense of safety because of these images. Hell, he should've told off the racist people who called the cops in the first place.

I'm gonna go back to lurking. I'm talking too much about it and feel like I'm talking over poc. I've learned a ton though!

To add to this. That's certainly not my intention. Hopefully that's not the vibe I'm giving off.

It's not about individual cops being good or bad it's about the unequal distribution of social, economic, and political power and the role the police play in enforcing this racial and classist hierarchy.

Nope. It was the officers life or the suspects. It was obvious the suspect didn't want to go back to jail because he ran. Then he grabbed the stolen gun so I don't think Mrs. Mosby would even take that case.

It doesn't matter to me whether the suspect was unarmed or armed. All police violence is illegitimate. As was pointed out, Wisconsin is one of the worst places to be a black person.

    All police violence is illegitimate?

If police can't use force to overcome resistance, effect arrest, prevent escape, protect citizens, and self defense, then we have anarchy. Kinda like we have seen in Ferguson, Baltimore, and now Milwaukee. Hence, the thin blue line between our society and anarchy.
