  1. Speaking of Paranormal Activity, Host is on Shudder today! Apparently only 50 minutes, too. Been reading good things.

  4. I dunno about that. The first 3 are the best in the series.

I liked PA 1 and 3. The 4th was okay. The rest were meh or I didn’t watch them

I remember seeing the first Paranormal Activity in theaters on opening night and it was truly terrifying

  7. I remember being super impressed with the third one when I caught in in theaters. Maybe time to revisit those movies.

The whole series is pretty mediocre and repetitive, but if i'm picking one it's PA3.

  11. It's definitely cheap thrills -- I always described it as one hour of cabinets opening by themselves and 20 minutes of demons throwing people around -- but I think that's also the draw. Ridiculously easy to watch. Like, I'd be lying if I said they weren't more than barely strung together sequences of "ghosts caught on tape" videos, but I'd also be lying if I said I wasn't into it lol.

I have quite the list for this weekend
The Relic, The Lodge, Host, maybe The Rental

I need to rewatch Metamorphosis bc my attention span sucks with subtitles and I know I missed stuff

  15. I've had no interest in Paranormal Activity, or The Conjuring, or Insidious. Not to shit on them or anything. I'm simply ambivalent. As I am with most horror franchises. Halloween, F13, NOES, etc. I developed an interest in the genre relarively recently, but I've also not really felt a need to catch up on a lot of things. Idk

You need to watch The Conjuring.

Why do that when you can watch The Exorcist followed by The Amityville Horror and get the same experience?

Ordered that Night of the Demons steelbook that was on the Shout Factory sale after watching it for the first time.

I can't believe I'm starting to buy physical media again after getting rid of all my DVDs a few years ago, but I guess having a smaller more curated collection is better. Not sure how my girlfriend will feel about that though.

  20. I would say if you were gonna watch any of the franchise films mentioned (despite having no interest in them), watch the first four or so Halloween movies. I'd be wary of lumping in new franchises with old classics, but I'm also not the biggest James Wan fan.

Out of those 3 franchises I'd definitely pick The Conjuring as the one single movie to watch

Much love to Rose Byrne and Lin Shaye but Vera Farmiga and Lili Taylor win this one

Haven’t seen any of the Conjuring/Insidious etc. flicks. Haunted House movies don’t do it for me. Like the aesthetic of some of the spooky stuff in Insidious but yeah, I’ll pass. Hate jump scares too
