Re4 is already on switch otherwise I’d pick that. I’d probably go with Sunshine and Twilight Princess.

My only memory of Star Fox Adventures was beating that little triceratops with a stick.

I'd like to beat Krystal with a stick, if you know what I mean.

Baten Kaitos is legitimately an awesome JRPG with a unique battling system using cards. Turn off the voice acting and the game is fantastic.

Super Monkey Ball hasn't had a good game since 2 and the minigames in that entry are top-notch.

Picked up the Origami King today, haven't played a Paper Mario game other than Thousand Year Door, so I'm excited to dive in.

Almost bought origami king yesterday but went with Mario kart. Haven’t played a Mario game since 64 so wanted the tried and true.

  14. Should have gone Odyssey, then origami king, then maybe Mario kart

Yeah I would've gone with Odyssey first, but I think Mario Kart is a solid choice. One of my favorites and by far the most played game when getting together with friends

I have a switch lite and had read to avoid odyssey for it?
also, any opinions on luigi’s mansion 3 or yoshi’s crafted world? Aesthetically I thought they both looked really cool.

If you like casual, easy games, Yoshi's Crafted World is fantastic and I recommend it. Super cute, gorgeous art, and a lot of fun. But if you like a challenging game, then that game probably isn't for you. Haven't played Luigi's Mansion, though.

As for Odyssey, I can kinda understand that argument from people who like to use the motion controls with Cappy. I'm personally one of those people to a degree; I rarely played the game in handheld because there are some fancy tricks you can do with the joycons that can't be done in handheld. But those tricks also made the game a lot less challenging for me, and I know a lot of people in here loved it with the pro controller, so it really is up to preference. I wouldn't say that should stop you from playing it- it's truly the best standalone Mario game in my opinion. Certainly since Mario 64.

So, Odyssey is a very good game, but I played it on handheld so I assume what they were talking about is the motion controls which can be uncomfortable or downright unwieldy in handheld mode. However, I wouldn't suggest avoiding it all together for that reason. A lot of those moves are not necessary to play the game and you'll still get a ton out of it. It's mainly to spice it up or get some of the most challenging moons.

Both Luigi's Mansion 3 and Yoshi's Crafted World are good games. LM3 is an adventure through a haunted hotel with each floor having a different setting and different bosses, there's co-op and some surprisingly fun multiplayer modes.

Yoshi's Crafted World is much more relaxed and just a fun little game that tends to lean on the easier side of things.

It's totally up to you and your playstyle and what genres you enjoy.

Ooh gotcha, I thought you simply couldn’t really play it fully on lite, but that sounds fine, thanks. I’m sure in time I’ll make my way around to all of these haha, I hadn’t appreciated how gorgeous Nintendo games had become.

I just read something that said in handheld mode the screen subtly shakes where it would otherwise rumble. Perhaps going into it knowing to look for that makes it even better.

MK8 Deluxe for someone who hasn’t played since N64 is an amazing pick.

I remember playing it on Wii U and just had so much fun. and then I bought it on Switch and the magic was still there (even in solo mode).

No wrong answer there though I would say pick Odyssey next because you’ll def appreciate all the references to past games @disambigujason

Ooh man I didn't realize the Lite didn't have any sort of rumble mechanism in it. That is a bit frustrating and I'm not sure how much of an impact that'd have. The game definitely takes advantage of it at times, but I feel like it's more of a novelty and not something used heavily. Just small things like "feel around for a prize until the vibrations get stronger" kinda thing.

Yeah, if the moons are hiding under the ground the joycons would rumble.

Keep in mind some games do not work in handheld mode and surprisingly, most of them are made by Nintendo themselves.

Games such as Super Mario Party, 1-2 Switch (which you won't be getting anyway) and Ring Fit Adventure don't work in handheld mode because they require you to use the joycons.
