Wait maybe its exactly what I’m looking for, are phaser and rotary the same thing?

no, i was referring to you mentioning flanger. rotary is basically what a leslie cabinet is. it’s a cabinet with a spinning speaker.

the effect has three settings: chorus, flanger, and rotary.

Realize the price range I set before but does anyone here have an opinion in any direction about the walrus audio Lillian?

they're one of my favorite brands around and I think they're best with delay/reverb/modulation stuff as opposed to overdrive stuff. i haven't played a Lillian but I know they based it as a phaser-version of their Julia chorus, which is great. I've debated buying one but don't have much use for a phaser.

I may be thinking of going off the deep end on modifying the wiring in my strat. Anyone ever do a 1/2 or 3/4 phase switch on any of their guitars?

I wired one of my old guitars to have a push-pull pot that would put one of my pickups out of phase. I honestly didn't use it that much. I ended up settling for a push-pull on my current guitar that acts as either a kill switch or a series/parallel toggle for the bridge and neck pickups, depending on the pickup selector position. It's fun to tinker though and get new sounds out of the guitar...I definitely struggled with the soldering of the more complex wiring and fitting it into the cavities of my imported tele style body. I've heard the american made bodies have a bit more room to work with, not sure if there's any truth to that.

I decided I like the tone of positions 2 and 4 on a strat when the pickups are out of phase. I also noticed it could be shrill and I heard some examples of people doing 1/2 or 3/4 out of phase to curb that issue some - but I have no idea how to achieve that.

My knowledge is a bit beginner level here, so if someone knows better feel free to correct me. I believe strat position 2 and 4 are still technically in phase, but they are reverse wound and reverse polarity, which gives the hum cancelling effect. The "double-reverse" keeps them in phase still. Here's a good article on phase and polarity: Pickup Polarity and Phase Made Simple - Guitar Pickups, Bass Pickups, Pedals

I think the simple answer is if you wanted to make it so that position 2 and 4 were out of phase, all you'd need is some sort of switch that flips the lead and ground of your middle pickup.

yeah that’s exactly what I’m looking for. to make things more complicated - some dudes are out there being selective about the capacitor on the phase switch. the idea is that you can control which frequencies get cancelled when phase shifts. that’s what they were calling 1/2 or 3/4 out of phase - which is not the correct way to explain it come to think.

I really want to upgrade my looper. Have a cheap one of Ebay that is good for ambient only, trying rhythmic looping is next to impossible.

Tempted to get a BOSS RC one, but then something like a Flashback/Canyon appeals to me for the extra delay. Hm hm

Curious what everyone's current go-to setups are?

    Currently, I'm running:

Fender 60th Anniversary Jazzmaster -> Shnobel Tone Volume/Tuner -> Ibanez TS808 -> 1981 Inventions DRV -> Big Ear Loaf -> Adventure Audio Fuzz Peaks 2 (My guilty pleasure, "why did I buy this, I don't need it" pedal) -> JHS Lucky Cat -> EHX Holy Stain (for the trem) -> Walrus Audio Fathom -> Egnator Tourmaster 4240

2006 Les Paul Studio > polytune > keeley compressor plus > jext telez canyon climber > stomp under foot sonic warfare > 1981 DRV > morgan mvp23

just sold my tremolo (wampler latitude) and reverb/delay (keeley caverns). looking for a stand alone reverb and delay. any suggestions?

    Currently:
Fender Telecaster MIM -> Fuzz War -> Caline Pure Sky OD -> Benson Pre-Amp -> Smallsound/Bigsound Mini -> Digitech Obscura Delay -> BOSS RV-6 reverb -> Red Panda Particle Delay -> BOSS Katana 50 w/ Fender Twin Reverb model

Sometimes, I toss my BOSS ME-20 on the end or beginning depending on what I want to play. I use it for extra reverb/delay mostly, so when ambient is the game and I'm not feeling lazy I'll add it.

i’m leaning towards either an arp87 or a lucky cat for the delay and am between super moon, astronomer, slo, ghost echo or space race for reverb

i’m leaning more towards the Arp for delay bc JHS has had some sketchy history with religious cult groups but, as you can tell from the long list, i’m pretty torn on reverb. the astronomer is nice bc it has two sets of knobs so you can dial in two different reverbs and cycle between the two without needing a preset menu but idk too much about the brand/their reputation. the space race seems like more than i need but can also probably cover the most. eqd and walrus are both brands i love. super moon might have the best reputation but, similarly to the astronomer, idk much about mr black. ugh.

the mr black reverbs always seemed super cool and haunting sounding but iirc they are single algo per box and idk how much you can change things up or if it would always sound the same each time you use it
